Subject: Necron Tactics - Kill The Quarterback !!!

Freaky Flayed One

With 9th Edition coming up, finding new ways to shut down your opponent suddenly becomes more important.
Necrons have how many ways to kill your opponents Characters first turn?.
1). Overlord as Warlord of Mephrit Dynasty - Tachyon Arrow that can target any Character using Merciless Tyrant trait (including his Warlord on turn one).
2). Deceiver Grand Illusion Deathmarks - put one or two units of 10 Deathmarks 12 1/2" from his front line on turn zero, walk them in 5" on turn one, then Rapid Fire Synaptic Disintegrators at 1/2 range for maximum Mortal Wounds from 6+ to wound rolls (Mephrit -1 AP?).
3). Doom Scythes using Amalgamated Targeting Data to select a convenient point within 3" of the juicy targets.
4). Imotekh's Lord Of The Storm pick a (big?) target unit 6" from multiple Characters and hope for 6's and d3 Mortal Wounds.
5). Nephrekh Dynasty Wraiths advancing 19", then using Adaptive Subroutines strategem to Charge over opponent's front line assaulting only the Characters cowering to their rear (Judge, is that even legal?).
6). Powers Of The C'tan Time's Arrow, roll a 5+ on a 4 wound enemy Character.
7). Transdimensional Thunderbolt is a longshot inflicting only one d3 mortal wounds possibility.
8). Obelisk Gravity Pulse using Gravitic Singularity strategem to hit all FLYing enemy units within 18" with 1d3 mortal wounds on a 4+.
All the other possibliliteies seem to inflict less than 1d3 damage.
Am I totally misinterpreting the rules or are these possible?

I mean technically they're all ways to snipe characters, but none of them are good or reliable ways to kill characters (maybe the wraiths).
It's also worth remembering that we're definitely getting a new codex soon, so many of these will change. Amalgamated Targetting Data is almost certainly not going to be in the new book.
Hopefully Deathmarks get a little buff, they're so close to being a good unit.

Just kill enough of the units surrounding the characters, don't invest in character sniping when it's been built into the core rules.
2) Mephrit is going to be very good in 9th I suspect, between fewer hordes and vehicles ignoring the heavy penalty and certainly on Deathmarks Mephrit is very good, the first point of AP is the most important.
3) It's going to cost you CP to bring a third Doom Scythe, the 2CP Patrol cost puts the Stratagem at a pretty fair place, which may or may not be good enough.
5) In the charge phase you cannot end within 1" of a unit unless you charged that unit, it's super risky trying to charge that character because your unit might be left twiddling their thumbs if they fail their charge since you must end your charge within 1" of every single unit you declared a charge against in 9th.
7) You usually cannot target a character with it, but it can provide one mortal wound on a 4+ if the character is close to the target. I think you also forgot Cosmic Fire.
8) Obelisk is so bad that it's not worth considering it for anything tactics related.
Don't totally ignore something because it only deals one damage, dealing two damage with one source doesn't kill anything, you'll want as many sources as possible if you want to rely on killing characters. The most reliable way is to spam Cosmic Fire and Transdimensional Arrow, you can get a couple of characters that way T1 if you bring 4 C'tan.

Yeah you don’t need to kill a character in a single turn for it to be worthwhile

I find C'Tan powers the best for MWs. I think Deceiver with screens could be good.

Assuming that some of the Dynasties stay the same, what's everyones take on advancing the new Skorpekhs through the walls with the Nephrekh Dynasty, assuming they get a strat that lets them charge after advancing too.

Assuming your assumptions are right I think we can assume that it's hard to assume too much without proper testing. That's just an assumption, a game assumption.

As a necron player I can see wanting to kill as many psyker characters on turn 1 as possible.
