I recently picked up 8th edition Warhammer as a hobby during the corona crisis and have stumbled across a few rule problems, both while reading the rulebook & during my first game. Do you guys perhaps know the solution?
1. Swarms: supporting attacks
Models in the second rank (or more if a horde) can issue supporting attacks, how many depending on the troop type. I consulted the entry about swarms in the BRB (page 84) but found nothing in regards to supporting attacks. I went to check the Skirmishers rule which all swarms have, but only found the mention that supporting attacks are possible (despite not being able to form ranks). Does this mean swarms cannot issues supporting attacks since the troop type entry doesn't mention it? The reason why I'm unsure is because the chariot troop type entry specifically notes that they are incapable of supporting attacks, why not offer the same treatment to swarms? In short: is there a ruling in regards to supporting attacks for swarms?
Attacking war machines in close combat
On page 110 of the BRB: when attacking a war machine in melee, only 6 models can be chosen as the assault party. Considering some models are bigger than others, the book mentions some models take up more space in an assault party: monstrous infantry, cavalry & beast count as 3 models, monsters + riders count as 5 models.
Where does this leave the swarms & chariot troop type?
- Are swarms on par with beasts due to their base size, even though they are a mass of tiny critters scrambling through every nook & cranny?
- Chariots aren't mentioned either, but considering their base they can be considered to be monsters thus counting for 5 models of the 6?
In short: Is there a ruling regards the size of swarm- & chariot-models in assault parties when engaging war machines in melee?
I tried digging around the web and in the various FAQ's, but couldn't find anything regarding these 2 questions. Thanks in advance for the help!
