Maybe a bit presumptive since 9th isn't out yet, but Heavy Cover has me scratching my head.

The actual rule for Heavy Cover states that a model in it adds +1 to their save unless the attacking model charged. Meaning, if unit A charges into Heavy Cover with unit B, then unit A gets +1 to their save and unit B gets nothing.

The bullet point summary under Heavy Cover says that a model in the terrain adds +1 to their save unless they charged. So unit A charges into Heavy Cover with unit B, unit A gets nothing, unit B gets +1 to their save.

Any idea how this is supposed to go?

Heavy cover benefits the unit that is charging, not the unit that is being charged.

My ork boyz charge your Tau Fire Warriors who are in Heavy Cover, my Boyz get the bonus.

I see what you're saying.

The text is clear- if an attacker charged, the defender doesn't get the save bonus

The bullet point is
+1 to saving throws against melee weapons unless model has mode a charge move this turn

I think its just missing a word- it isn't clear which 'model' is being referred to. I'd assume it should say 'attacking model,' to match it up to the text.

For you youngins out here wondering how this makes sense:

Back in the old times we had some vastly different rules for melee: You had an Initiative score on your profile telling you when you get to strike, and Charging into cover had negatives, unless you had Frag grenades, Stick bombs, Plasma grenades, Photon Grenades, and similar. The grenades were not usually weapons, instead they forced the charge target to keep their heads down and strike later in melee.

This new heavy cover, and assault grenade-type weapons now being standard, basically returns much of this older mechanic; the charging unit is keeping the defenders from making the most of cover via indiscriminate area attacks on the way in.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.
