If I read the rules correctly, there is no way for any units besides infantry, swarms or beasts to ever receive the benefit of cover from area terrain or obstacles, right?
Meaning vehicles, monsters, bikes or battlesuits can never benefit from light cover, heavy cover or defensible, but they can be hidden by obscuring terrain or made harder to hit by dense terrain as neither requires you to benefit from cover, correct?

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |

"Receives the benefits of cover" is a specific portion of the "rare rules" section, and just means Terrain Trait "light cover".
So area terrain and obstacles that do not normally have that trait(which applies to any model/unit) grant the properties to Infantry, Swarms, and Beasts.

That wasn't my question though.
Area terrain and obstacles only provide the benefit of cover to infantry, swarms and beasts.
Light cover, heavy cover and defensible work of models receiving the benefit of cover from the piece of terrain in question.
Therefore bikes, vehicles, monsters and battlesuits can't ever benefit from actual terrain, correct?

I would assume so, assuming that's what the rule actually says (I only have the Core Rules).

Correct. The only aspect of cover that non- infantry/beast/swarm units can benefit from is Dense cover, and then only if they're *NOT* on/in said terrain.

Had a Long explanatory post all set up.
Went back to the video to double check "Receiving benefits of cover" realized that those are specifically when not in terrain.
Went back to double check the terrain rules in Leaked PDF "Certain Models receive the benefits of cover from some terrain features." Then a bit about the benefits as defined in Terrain Traits.
So, the woods (#5 on the sample terrain page) make no sense. They are Breachable and Difficult Area Terrain, only Infantry, Swarms, and Beasts "Gain the benefits" of Difficult terrain and Breachable allows Infantry, Swarms, and Beasts to move through without impediment. So woods really only have Dense Cover and Defensible.

Difficult terrain does not require to you receive the benefit of cover to slow you down. Light and heavy cover explicitly requires you to receive the benefit of cover to have any effect.

hmm, you may be correct.
Still coming to grips with the interactions pre-9th release.
