I have a particularly strange meta at my gaming table myself and 3 friends run 500 to 750 point lists also there is very little terrain so it has turned into me forming up in a corner and trying not to die. I was thinking of adding a squad of sentinels to my list to distract my enemies and tear up squads and vehicles alike. Is this a reasonable strategy or is there anything better I could do. I'm normally being bogged down in melee turn one. Our table is entirely too small. Plz help.

It sounds like you have identified the actual issues very well- your board is too small and has not enough scenery. It is probably better for everyone to spend some time and energy making some terrain, and figuring out how to make a bigger gaming space than to build lists that work on a too-small, too-bare battlefield. Once you can try out units in a more balanced setting, you can see what they are supposed to do,

Nothing to lose by trying. I quite like armoured sentinels, and they can have decent staying power in cover. Even if you havent got cover, at those points they'll probably still be alright. And theyre good to get in the way of light melee units trying to tie up your guard.

scout sentinels are one of my favorite toolbox units, but I don't think they'd work on a super open table. Usually, I scout mine up into cover and try to find ways to make it super obnoxious (for example, by walking right up to a huge expensive enemy vehicle or a rhino containing khorne bezerkers or something and making it go around)
It's my happy little suicide machine. I use it with my genestealer cult so I modeled a bundle of dynamite strapped to the front to try and convince it to always roll a 6 to explode.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

Armored sentinals can outfight their point value in leman russ tanks, easily, here is how. The resiliancy strat means I DO think a trio of these as one unit would work on an open table. Coupled with an engenseer and a -1 to be hit astropath, 3 ARMOREDt sentinals + hunterkiller missle 3 + missle launcher 3 can fire (on turn 1) their 6 missle shots at +2 to hit (another strat) and afterwards are surprisingly hard to blow up. Enemy players antiarmor may hit them fairly easily but 1/2 damage and 3 small bodies means that something big often will kill only 1 of them a round, and the engenseer can repair one up to full health. Consider a lone leman russ firing a battle cannon and a lascannon into the trio will probably hit 8 or 9 times, enough to blow only ONE of them up, and lightly damage the second (which the engenseer can likely repair to full effect). That same leman russ got hit with 6 missles (and your warlord, well, he had an old grudge against that leman russ, so maybe 5 of them wounded, and the poor thing's armor stopped 2 or 3 of them, so its a pretty badly wounded leman russ trying to get hits in at all.). With a huge dropoff in the accuracy of your enemy tank commander's russ, they become even more survivable, so its possible you end up only losing one. So my suggestion is Squad of 3 ARMORED sentinals with 3 missle launcher and 3 hunter killer missle astropath (nightshroud) engenseer. Expect to blow 3 cp on them the first round and 1 each on rounds 2 and 3. Total price of this unit? About the same as a single leman russ tank commander, but its just as first round punchy and then its surprisingly more durable.
