I was thinking of a specialist little army list, a necron tombworld defense force. It would only be played as a tombworld defense army and would represent defenses taking out attacking forces trying to raid the tombworld while it was still dormant.

Mainly canoptek forces would be available in ways not normally usable on a battlefield, maybe due to the tombworld's own AI controlling them or local energy nodes powering them. But some other units would be available.

Crypteks as HQ, I assume maybe a few of them might be up preparing the tombworld for awakening.

Warriors. Hey, they're so basically mindless maybe they can re woken up fast with no trauma or need for a gradual awakening. Or they're the necron version of (ugh) morning people. So maybe warrior units could be 'on call' for rapid defense.

vehicles. If a monolith is an unpiloted construct then maybe it can just be switched on and deployed quickly. Maybe with some sort of boost from the tombworld network or if the new rulse for it are good it makes a formidable defense. Likewise for the new walkers in indomitus.

Triarch units. The triarch defends the necron race as a whole, so they may watch some tomb worlds and come to their ad at times. Not always, but sometimes.

Naturally those gun pylons and weapons would be a must.

As for units only in a tombworld defense force, maybe scarabs as troops or fast attack. Also scarabs might get the ability to use self destruct more often than on the battlefield.

Possibly units of cryptothralls as elites, maybe in units of 10.

Defending units get to be recycled in some cases.

The attacker would have specific goals, like gathering intelligence, destroying a specific target (Say anti orbital target weapons) that may have to b destroyed in close combat, kill a large number of necron defenders to weaken the tombworld in preparation for a major attack, etc.

A dormant tombworld raid could just be a special scenario to try once in a while. I got the idea seeing a large tabletop done entirely in necron terrain.

Anyone have their own idead on a specialist tombworld defense army list and rules? I kinda hope they do this in the new codex.

While posting this I had the idea for an all triarch army, with now HQ units maybe, ands possibly troops recruited or borrowed from dynasties loyal to the triarch or in their debt. If anyone has any ideas about that i'm interested.
