I finally managed to finish painting this guy....so many challenges building and painting this guy, but I pulled through and I'm happy with the result. I took a space marine head and shaped hair and parts of the beard with greenstuff. I partly designed and comissioned a custom spearhead from shapeways that had to be fitted to the spearhandle, then I had to sculpt a ring and parts of the rope on the spearhandle so the rope has a place to end.
Painting was also a real challenge, the most difficult thing was weirdly the plasma effect on the gun of the spear.

Anyway here he is, C&C very welcome.

Looks great! Especially great on the rope, can't see where the actual piece ends and your adaptations start.

I love the "Wavy" effect (not sure if that is the best adjective) on the blade.

My only criticisms (which are both stretches, and are on things that I'd be happy to have achieved)
1. The bolter looks really bland in comparison to the rest of the model. That may have been intentional. It's well done, don't get me wrong, but it sticks out as not fancy.
2. The top ploom might look better with the same effect you put on the cape.

Thank you for the kind comments and the honest criticism, I really appreciate that.

The gun looks more bland, that is true. I spent so much time on the plasma effect that I just did a very subtle edge highlight with eshin gray and administrarum gray that does not really show up on the pictures. Maybe I'll go over that again some time.
The ploom is a little more subdued by choice. I personally like them that way. I almost never highlight them up to orange on the highest parts like on the cape. I get your point though

You're very welcome. Believe me when I say this is far and well beyond my skills. Only noticeable by the quality of the photos you uploaded as well. I think this guy will look amazing on the table top and receive a lot of compliments.

Cheers!!

Nice work. I really like the head, and the ropes and tassles.

Just wanted to also include a pic of my slowly growing shield host. It's all the models I have finished so far for my custodes army, which only amounts to about 450 points painted. Which really isn't a lot, but if I keep my pace I'll maaaybe manage to get 1000points painted by the end of the year....
