I've been in and out of 40k for like 2 decades now, gotta admit though getting back in this time has been a little scary - there seems to be some pretty big chunks of the community where words like "inclusion" and "diversity" are seen as more offensive than "racist" or "nazi" ... which isn't great ^^"

Not looking to start a fight or anything, just want to know if this is somewhere I'm going to get hate if I try to talk about making the hobby welcoming to more diverse groups (-:

Cheers!

I notice you have no replies as of this post, mostly because this looks like a troll post to most people here , especially since it is your only post about any topic here on the forums.

40K and wargaming generally has always been open to all players. real world politics should never enter the picture.

"inclusion" and "diversity" in their current definition are subjective based on political views and directly imply exclusion of those who do not hold the same defined views

This brings real world politics into the game and causes division.

Best to avoid it at all costs.

Not looking to troll! Just want to know if this is somewhere I can be myself before I jump into the rest of the forum :-)

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

Hi SK! My experience is that Dakka is welcoming to anyone that wants to get along. There is a general ban on politics. Left, right, top, bottom, or anywhere in between, leave it at the door.

You can be anyone you want to be. It’s not like joining up puts a camera in your room for us to spy on you. That takes time. Say, 50 posts or so. So you can decide between here and there.

It’s like anywhere in the world. You can voice an opinion and other people can voice theirs. Dakka has open admission, but if you regularly act like a jerk you’re apt to be shown the door. Think of it like going to a friend’s party. People of all walks of life might be there. If you don’t play by the friend’s rules, they might ask you to leave.

It is my (positive) experience that the site Mods are pro-inclusivity, and will stand on the side of defending individual rights. I think you’ll be alright.

That said... opening your posting with an overall accusation of gamers being dicks might be missing the tone of this site. I find the site is overall welcoming to anyone trying to get along. Please get a feel for the site before throwing out “most gamers are dicks” threads.

Not looking to accuse anyone of anything! Just looking to check I guess - I've seen a lot of hate around and if I weren't welcome here I'd rather find out right away rather than 3 months in.

Glad to hear this is an open community though :-)

Would be interested to know where the line is on the politics ban - obviously this isn't a place to start a debate on economic systems or political campaigning, but is it okay to talk about the implications of the imperium's facism / GW's "Warhammer is for everyone" statement / etc. or is ALL political talk banned?

I'm not the judge, but my experience is that referring to *historical* politics is usually ok, if it relates to the game somehow. I don't think anyone will be surprised if you connect the Imperium to Fascism...

Modern politics is off the table though. Say, last 20 years.
