Quick question for anyone who has picked up the Command Edition starter set today (or had it on pre-order) - how does the rulebook in the box compare to the Indomitus tome or the CA pamphlet?

Would like to know that too. No desire to lug round the full-sized rulebook like I had to in 8th.

Nah I ordered Three Indomitus sets, if the rule book is a return to (what was it, 5th edition) where the starter set had a mini-book rule book? Then I'll do what I did then, buy a mini book or two off Ebay from people parting out Starter Sets to put in the army cases.

My WHFB armies were Bretonians and Tomb Kings.

Much as it pains me to reference BoLS, they ran an article about "surprises" in the command edition (cliclbaity enough that I gave in and read it, but I don't think I can bring myself to link it!)

Anyway they picked one up and found that the rulebook was a small format with (as expected) just the rules, but without the background. So back to the old approach of sticking the small format rules-only book in the starter.

I must admit the initial marketing and photos made me think it was an A4 format hardback, just with fewer pages.

Ick, BoLS...

Still, if they're confirming that the CE rulebook does have all the rules from Indomitus in it, in a more portable form, that sounds like it might be worth looking into.

Thanks for that, lurch - does it seem to be complete, as far as you can tell?

I wouldn't be surprised if it's just because they're the same ones in the Core book, because they fall smack-bang in the middle of the rules sections there.

For all we know, you could have huge hands, especially with a name like lurch!

I as far as I can tell its the complete rules but I haven't seen the big book in person to compare them.

Well I'm on the bigger size, my hands are actually small for my size ironically.

Thanks lurch and Victor - looks like CE would be a sensible additional purchase to Indomitus, aside from the bonus Necrons and spare Captain in Gravis Armour.

I trust the full rules as in big rulebook and not the CA? CA rule section is missing detachments and couple rules like max 1 CP refund/gain per round. I trust these are in this one?

I've just been through and done a comparison; it's exactly the same as the core book, just scaled-down ~70% and missing the first 188 pages of guff.

Yep, it's got the basic rules, all the detachments stuff, terrain rules, all the Open/Matched/Narrative rules, and the appendix

Good. Rather handy then. Might have to chase down one one day. The big book is pain to carry around.

Quick question on the Command Edition rule book.

Am i right in assuming the page numbers don't match up with the one in the Indomitus set, and I expect the stand alone rule book might be different again. This would mean that the page number references in the core rules FAQ won't align with the different versions.

Do we think it likely that FAQs will be issues for the different versions of the rulesbooks? It seems to me that this could lead to all sorts of problems if one book has a typo or something is missing when they are updated. Without separate FAQs it seems the page references will be largely irrelevant for many, and possibly quite confusing.

Thoughts?

Oh GW...

Why can you get it right with past editions, where you put the rules at the front so in the smaller copy when you remove the extra pages in the big one the rules pages line up? Yet with this one it appears you have not

Yep, you'd be absolutely right. Subtract 188 from the Core Book page no. to get the Rules book one.
