I'm fittin' to start a marine army for 9th and looking to learn at 1000 points that can be the basis, plus or minus a few things, for a 2000 point list. As we're in a weird 9th edition holding pattern before the codex releases, I know things are going change, but would love some advice in help picking one of the lists below, or altering one of them a bit. I've love the list to be competitive, but I care more about model variety and "funnness" over stomping my opponent.

List 1
++ Battalion Detachment 0CP (Imperium - Adeptus Astartes - Ultramarines) ++

+ Configuration +

**Chapter Selection**: Ultramarines

Battle Size: 2. Incursion (51-100 Total PL / 501-1000 Points)

Detachment CP

. 4x Incursor: 4x Bolt pistol, 4x Frag & Krak grenades, 4x Occulus bolt carbine, 4x Paired Combat Blades, 4x Smoke Grenades

Intercessor Squad: Bolt rifle
. 4x Intercessor: 4x Bolt pistol, 4x Frag & Krak grenades
. Intercessor Sergeant

+ Elites +

Aggressor Squad: 3x Aggressor, Aggressor Sergeant
. Auto Boltstorm Gauntlets/Fragstorm Grenade Launcher

Invictor Tactical Warsuit: Fragstorm Grenade Launcher, Heavy bolter, 2x Ironhail Heavy Stubber, Twin ironhail autocannon

++ Total: [52 PL, 5CP, 1,000pts] ++

I really like the cool factor of the Incursors and invictors.the idea of dropping mines to deter my opponent from moving on objectives sound cool, regardless of how impactful it actually is. I also think the invictors give a lot of deployment options and being faster than the rest of my force and compared to redemptors, just gives me more options.

This list has more aggressors, which I ultimately plan on using at 2000 points anyways. I was unsure the best AT options, so settled with double Eradicators. I'd rather get a walker or vehicle for variety and wonder how the unreleased ATV and primaris vindicator will shift around if Eradicators are the best option. I worry about purchasing 2 units of those. Plasma inceptors could be another option, but leave the list in a funny spot points wise.

Would love to hear what you guys think.

A captian will always outshine any other HQ's if you spend the cp to make him a chapter master for full reroll bubble then it's a choice of Lieutenant or Chaplain, if your going to have a chaplain I'd always as ultramarine's get Cassius in he's only 10 points more and a lot more usefull he has 2 litanies per turn and gives inspired retribution also

As ultramarine's our key advantages in my opinion are the rapid redeploy and move in tatical doctrine and act as you haven't

So I always go Aggressors and Invictors

However my favourite unit currently are plasma inceptors they are just awesome anti tank, anti horde and anti eliets 1 squad can delete most things you drop them near to clear them off objectives

For 1k points consider taking a patrol over a battalion that way you only need 1 troops choice

As for lists you run I like the first one and with that I'd drop the invictors 9' away from opponent's line's of you get turn 1 happy days they rush in and smash face while rest of your army moves up to take centre board

If you don't get T1 you can rapidly redeploy them back a bit to keep them safer to walk up shooting and charge T2 or something

Personally I'd take list 1 drop a troop squad and 1 aggressor and add in either eradicators or a unit of plasma inceptors

Lastly always take seal of oath of you can it's just too good not too.

Thanks for the advice. I went this those HQs for now because I'm thinking of using Calgar at 2k, so trying to save myself the purchase on the Captain, but may reconsider. I ended up going with the regular chaplain because I'm not interested in purchasing any small marines, but I supposed in friendly games, I could just use the primaris one as a counts as. Though, I spent a CP to use 2 litanies a turn anyways.

If I drop to a patrol, I'm limited to 2 elite slots, so I'd have to drop an Invictor or the aggressors.

Looking in Battlescribe, can I give my Chaplain 1 special issue wargear AND 1 chapter relic, or is it just 1 from either category?
