Subject: 9th Edition rules for Wazdakka Gutsmek and Old Zogwort
|
 |
Ork Admiral Kroozin Da Kosmos on Da Hulk
|
When flipping through the 4th edition codex, I was reading through their datasheets and came to the conclusion that it can't be to hard to translate them to 9th, right?
Wazdakka Gutsmek (120 Points)
(Not too much to say about this. I used the big mek on warbike and Grotznik as references, since he and wazdakka both had very similar profiles.)
Wargear: Slugga, PK, KMB, Stikkbombz (same as old codex)
Dakkakannon 24" Assault 4 S8 AP-1 D2 (This used to be more close to a powerful autocannon than to a multi-shot rokkit)
Abilities:
’Ere We Go, Mob Rule, Dakka! Dakka! Dakka! (duh)
Big Mekaniak: At the end of your Movement phase, this model can repair a single friendly VEHICLE model within 3". That model regains D3 lost wounds. A model can only be repaired once per turn.
(Regular big mek ability, minus the clan locked part. His fluff states him wanting to unite all the tribes, and it does mirror Grotznik once again)
Da Bike Boss: Re-roll hit rolls of 1 in the Fight phase for attacks made by friendly EVIL SUNS WARBIKER units while they are within 6" of Wazdakka Gutsmek
(he used to make bikes troops, but in almost all cases this kind of ability was turned into some re-roll ones thing.)
Warbike of the Aporkalype: Wazdakka does not suffer the penalty to his hit rolls for Advancing and firing Assault weapons.
(I'm aware that this is redundant with the evil suns culture he most like has, but in case you have a mixed detachment he still keeps this rule)
Mek Boss: You cannot use the "Da Kleverest Boss" stratagem if Wazdakka is part of your army.
Factions Keywords: ORK, EVIL SUNS
Keywords: BIKER, CHARACTER, SPEED FREEKS, BIG MEK
(not much to see here)
Old Zogwort (90 points)
(He had the melee profile of a boy instead of a nob back then, because of his poisoning)
Wargear:
Nest of Vipers Melee Melee S* AP0 D1 Each time the bearer fights, they make d6 additional attacks with this weapon. This weapon wounds on a 2+, unless it is targeting a VEHICLE or TITANIC unit, in which case it wounds on a 6+.
(Used the drukhari poison rule for this, otherwise it remained the same)
Abilities:
’Ere We Go, Mob Rule, Dakka! Dakka! Dakka!
Waaagh! Energy: Add 1 to Psychic tests taken for this model for every 10 ORK models (excluding GRETCHIN) within 10" of it when the roll is made, to a maximum of +3. If the result of the test is 12+ this model immediately suffers Perils of the Warp.
(Regular weirdboy stuff)
Warphead: Zogwort cannot be upgraded using the Warphead stratagem.
Psyker:
This model can attempt to manifest two psychic powers in each friendly Psychic phase, and attempt to deny one psychic power in each enemy Psychic phase. It knows the Smite psychic power, Zogwort's Curse and one psychic power from the Power of the Waaagh! discipline.
Zogwort's Curse (WC 9):
Pick an INFANTRY character with 9 or less wounds that is both within 18" and visible to Zogwort. You and that model's controller both roll a d6. If your roll is higher, other player can add one squig (you have to provide the model) to their army within 6" of the character and more than 1" from any enemy models. The character is then slain.
(this was a tough one, since it's pretty much a strictly better version of 'eadbanger, so I gave it 'eadbangers WC value plus one)
Faction Keywords: ORK, FREEBOOTA
Keywords: CHARACTER, INFANTRY, PSYKER, WEIRDBOY, FLASH GITZ
(This one is actually tricky, his fluff says that while he originally came from feral orks on catachan, but is now a freeboota. Since he hires out his talents, I gave him the flash gits keywords so he would fit into any ork army, just like them)
Squig
(same stats as in the old codex)
Is that you?: A squig does not prevent your army from gaining army-wide faction rules.
Faction Keywords: UNALIGNED
Keywords: BEAST, CHARACTER
So, thoughts? Keep in mind this is just a 1:1 transfer to allow people to play their conversions of old, not a retune to make them great this edition.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |

Waaagh! Ork Warboss

Why the Flash Gitz keyword on Zogworth?
With the new profiles involving more wounds on models and more lethality I'd just upgrade zog's rod with a rule that it makes it cause one mortal wound on any to wound roll of 6.
Da bike boss could be a generic re-roll of 1s aura for bikes, not only in close combat.

So he can ride transports and does not break cultures without the need for errataing everything. Lore-wise he is a mercenary just like Badrukk. With the new profiles involving more wounds on models and more lethality I'd just upgrade zog's rod with a rule that it makes it cause one mortal wound on any to wound roll of 6.
In a modern take on these two, I'd probably change a lot. In 4th edition, it was just a poison weapon with + d6 attacks though. Da bike boss could be a generic re-roll of 1s aura for bikes, not only in close combat.
I thought about this, but when you compare this to Zagstrukk, Badrukk or Snikrot, their special rules have turned into minor buffs, while re-rolling ones on all those dakkaguns would be pretty major.

I'd be inclined to give the bike of the Aporkalypse the ability to fire into combat with -1 to hit, like big guns never tire with heavy weapons.
I'd also give the "biker boss" rule such that "Warbiker" units within 9" of wazdakka can advance and charge, like warbosses do for infantry and wartrikes do for vehicles. That said, I may be misremembering the warbosses aura, I don't think it affects bikes...

It was errata'ed to affect bikes, but Wazdakka has always been a big mek, not a warboss. But yeah, that might actually be a better minor buff aura.

I'd love to see the "highway through the warp" that he was always supposed to be trying to achieve. That's more of a re-write than bringing him into this edition though!
something like allowing him and any warbiker units to deploy anywhere on the board, within 6" of each other. then lose some models, to balance it. Though warbikers being not so great, that may be an unnecessary effect...

I think that if you are ruking out "the kleverest boss" on Wazzdakka, you should give him the corresponding buffs. So. He should be 5a 6w (I would argue for even 7w as a wartrike has already 8).
As for Old Zog. Wasn't him Snake bite? (Klan)

Good catch, a regular mek has 4, so he should get +1 from the bike and +1 from the mek boss. The other parts of kleverest boss were already factored in - a big mek only has 3 attacks, so he goes to 4. I though the same about Zogwort, but I went back through all his fluff and snakebites are never actually mentioned by name. It sais that he grew up as a feral ork on Catachan and later left it to become a freeboota. Automatically Appended Next Post: So, version 2, incorporating all the feedback: - Da bike boss now allows bikes to advance and charge. Less re-rolls! - Added +1W from kleverest boss - Gave Warbike of the Aporkalypse a more meaningful version of "shooting at high speed". - Cleaned up Zogwort's Flash Git confusion and added feral orks to his keywords. Wazdakka Gutsmek (120 Points) Wargear: Slugga, PK, KMB, Stikkbombz Dakkakannon 24" Assault 4 S8 AP-1 D2 Abilities: ’Ere We Go, Mob Rule, Dakka! Dakka! Dakka! Big Mekaniak: At the end of your Movement phase, this model can repair a single friendly VEHICLE model within 3". That model regains D3 lost wounds. A model can only be repaired once per turn. Da Bike Boss: Friendly EVIL SUNS BIKE units within 6" of this model at the start of the Charge phase can charge even if they Advanced this turn. Warbike of the Aporkalype: When Wazzdakka advances, until end of the turn his Dakka! Dakka! Dakka! ability triggers on unmodified hit rolls of 5 or 6, instead of 6. Mek Boss: You cannot use the "Da Kleverest Boss" stratagem if Wazdakka is part of your army. Factions Keywords: ORK, EVIL SUNS Keywords: BIKER, CHARACTER, SPEED FREEKS, BIG MEK Old Zogwort (90 points) Wargear: Nest of Vipers Melee Melee S* AP0 D1 Each time the bearer fights, they make d6 additional attacks with this weapon. If the result of the test is 12+ this model immediately suffers Perils of the Warp. Mercenary: This model can be included in an ORK Detachment without preventing other units from that Detachment from gaining a Clan Kultur. Note, however, that this model does not benefit from any Clan Kultur unless the Clan Kultur selected for that Detachment is the Freeboota Clan Kultur or Feral Orks subculture. Warphead: Zogwort cannot be upgraded using the Warphead stratagem. Psyker: This model can attempt to manifest two psychic powers in each friendly Psychic phase, and attempt to deny one psychic power in each enemy Psychic phase. It knows the Smite psychic power, Zogwort's Curse and one psychic power from the Power of the Waaagh! discipline.
