Considering some options to expand the crusade upgrades a little, as a few of the lists are pretty short and don't give much of an effect to a lot of units (they seem mostly designed for space marines, quel surprise).
Any suggestions welcome!
Thinking maybe of keeping all the things that are already there, but adding a new page/table to roll on ... or making the existing lists longer maybe (so you'd roll 2D6 instead of 1D6 if you were rolling randomly).

I wouldn't mind seeing something that would allow you to affect the battlefield in some way, as some kind of forward-scouting reward.
Like:
booby traps - secretly note down a piece of terrain (or objective - too powerful maybe?) before deployment. If an enemy unit ends any kind of movement within 3" of that piece, BAM - reveal the traps, immediate D3 mortal wounds.
sabotage - before deployment, choose a hill, obstacle or piece of area terrain, that piece now has the Difficult Ground trait.
Also, if you weren't already aware, it looks like the new 9th ed Codexes will be bringing faction-specific Crusade rules to bear.

Note that, if you do 2d6, that makes a bell curve.
Use d66 instead-you get up to 36 options, with no bell curve. (Unless you WANT that bell curve.)

Interesting thought, if I can come up with 6 options for things that effect the deployment / battlefield then I could put that into a list!
And yeh, it wouldn't surprise me... but I don't play space marines, so that's likely to be 12months or more of a wait for things that actually help me lol. No, and you make a good point, I was just using it as an example of extending the charts. 2D6 wouldn't even work, cos you can't roll a 1. I should have said using a D12 instead, or some other thing.
Using D66 is fine, but I doubt I'd come up with 36 options so it's no help haha.

I'm going to say it's gonna be very hard to add much to crusade without it becoming very broken very quickly.
Be very careful about who you play with, make sure to keep it fun rather.
Anyway, I'd love to see some of the kill team mechanics of the scout phase- it would enrich the missions quite a lot. booby traps, redeploys, pre moves. Maybe it'd get silly, but it'd be cool.

I suggest coming up with a new Battle Honors theme that you can come up with 6 roughly balanced options. We currently have:
Battle Traits - Ability enhancements
Weapon Enhancements
Psychic Fortitudes
Crusade Relics
What other themes make sense for all units or a distinct selection of units (like Psychic Fortitudes)?

Exactly, and that's what I'm trying to think of. Though I would also like to extend the psychic one to being 6 options instead of just 3.
I think a 'command enhancements' one is good, which can include things like pre-game booby trap of a terrain piece, and maybe something simple like +1CP... or maybe "once per game, when you play a stratagem, it costs 1 less CP", though that might be too strong... could just make it "once per game, a 1CP stratagem can be played for free".
Giving a unit the 'Scout' ability could be interesting. I'd also love it if there was some kind of 'latent psyker' thing, so you could give a unit a psyker ability, but it would be way too strong on some units. Maybe make it fixed (kinda like warlocks / grey knights) so like... it gets a 1 mortal wound smite, but they only roll 1D6.

I would focus any Crusade enhancements on the specific unit. Given that one of the Battle Traits allow a unit to Overwatch all the time at a 5+ to hit, I wouldn't worry too much about a limited CP refund on a specific unit. Something like:
Signature Move: Select a stratagem that can be used by the unit with this crusade ability. Once per game, when that stratagem is used targeting this unit or it's action, the CP cost of the stratagem is changed to 0.
