Trying to get the look of the picture. I'm considering doing a super thin layer of agrellan earth to get its color and texture without the cracks. To pick out the studs on the drill faces I was considering either mixing some grey with leadbelcher or using graphite (I've seen a lot of armor modelers do this and it looks quite good.) I've never done anything like this and so I'd like to get some advice before I do anything to my models. In the second picture I have the models + all of my browns and texture paints that I could use.

Id use pencil graphite to pick out the wear, then a powder rather than a base paint. You could build up some bigger clumps using water and powder slurry, then add some dry powder over the top.

Yes, for that look I would try powders first.
Yellow Ochre crushed pastels for dusty dry look might work

I only have vallejo pigments sienna but it's is really close to the color of the picture so I think I'll use that.

you can make cheap weathering powders by grinding down coloured chalk pastels.

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!
