I tried something different, closer to what I wanted to play when I started Guard. I elected to avoid infantry as 6 troops choices is not enough to face an IF centurion list, I will try to protect my men with armor and faith. I took a calidus because she has D2 and can appears on an objective and / or close to a 3 men squad (suppressors, eliminators, a thundefire...) and reasonably kill two of them, maybe a the third with Attrition. I decided to give my little cute cyclopes a chance with strategic reserves too.
I used to play Tallarn to give my tanks a bit more mobility, but I'll try others doctrines now that the infamous -1 to hit after moving is gone for my vehicles.

My opponent will play full primaris, with centurions, several squads of intercessors, probably a redemptor, an ancient, an apothecary, 6 eliminators and 6 suppressors.

Anyway, whoever wins here, the Imperium wins !

He wanted to try some units he hasnt played yet as IF, such as the thunderfire and the vindicator. I wanted to play my good old armored company again, knowingly that it would be an uphill battle to play a what was subpar list in 8th against his primaris army. But anyway, we had great fun ! It was such a pleasure to play just my beloved vehicles without any infantry.

The report:



DEPLOYEMENT

I deployed the vehicles in two groups: the first grouped for the aura around the officer and the chimera chassis for a flank attack with the punisher.
I kept some reserves (two Cyclops, three stormtroopers squads, a tempestor and a chimera with a command squad and an astropath).

He deployed himself fairly grouped, too grouped, as he noticed from T1, leaving the objectives far from his forces.
The centurions were in cover and benefited from the three characters and were surrounded by 15 intercessors while the predator was hidden by a ruin on its right flank.
His vehicles, with low range, were all in front.

TURN 1

The first turn started, and I entered the big fortification with my vehicles while the other group remained quite still.
I wounded the redemptor 10 times with the leman russes and killed 3.5 intercessors stalker



In his turn he advanced 5 marines in the ruins on the right following the predator and labouriously advanced the damaged redemptor in the scenery.
A half squad also advanced towards the crashed thunderhawk.



He destroyed a leman russ, the punisher and a chimera (killing 2 guards inside) with the thunderfire, the centurions, the intercessor stalkers and the predator.

TURN 2
In the second turn the squad that was still on board deployed on the objective on my side of the table and the chimera blocked lines of sight, the other squad
stayed on the objective, out of LoS.
My reserves came.
2 stormtrooper squads, the tempestor, the last chimera and the cyclops were deployed around the crashed thunderhawk, a stormtrooper squad in the ruins near
the half intercessor squad and the callidus right behind the chaplain.

I finished the redemptor with the hellhound and the predator got insta killed by the vanquisher. The kasrkins killed his techmarine (loosing one guy to overcharge...) and the callidus failed to wound. The second thunderhawk stormtrooper squad killed 1.5 marines and the last squad killed 0 while loosing a man...
The hellhound charged the vindicator. His chaplain killed my callidus and remained alive at 1 wound...




He brought in his reserves that I had forgotten: 2 * 3 inceptors, a squad on each objective on my side and cleaned them of all the veterans who were there.
He advanced his big middle pack towards my Leman Russes, slightly out of reach of his heavy bolters. He disengaged his vindicator and moved it toward my deployement zone.
He destroyed the hellhound, which took quite a beating before exploding, and killed the Tempestor and his stormtrooper squad while seizing the thunderhawk objective
as well as the stormtrooper squad on his right flank.

TURN 3
I moved my kasrkins on the thunderhawk, and also moved my cyclops towards his big middle pack. My chimera charged the vindicator, my lemans russes are headed towards my objectives.
I destroyed his half intercessors squad and took back the thunderhawk objective.


AMBUSH !

I divided my vanquisher shots too much and destroyed no Inceptor units (1.5 killed on each unit. and no damages on his vindicator) despite good rolls to hit.
The last leman russ only killed a single inceptor.

He made his chaplain go back to my Cyclops, ready to sacrifice him if necessary to protect his center. Suppressors shots killed one, but the second survived
despite the chaplain charging it.



Death is coming !

He charged my empty chimera with his half squad and encircled it and charged my russ leman with his surviving inceptor.


TURN 4
The command squad disembarked, I disengaged the leman russ and the cyclops and detonated it, killing 6 intercessors. I killed another 1 or 2 with the melta squad.
The other chimera was still fighting, and my leman russ couldn't shoot this turn. I believe the vanquisher killed 2 centurions but missed the inceptors.



He destroyed my vanquisher with everything he had and the command squad with his stalker-intercessors.

TURN 5
I finally destroyed the last of his inceptors with my last leman russ and a charge from my officer.
He then destroyed my Russ with his vindicator and my command chimera with the rest of his force.

In the end, I lost 71-26, but that's not a surpise as I took silly secondaries (I have...6 secondary points lol). I am fairly happy with this game and list, last time I faced his Imperial Fist primaris (with classic marines) it was a total disaster. Being able to play an old fluffy list and not even being tabled at then end, and still putting pressure on him was very enjoyable. I have twisted this list a little bit, I hope to try it this month again (no more cyclops, even if they are my iconic unit).
