I didn’t find any threads pertaining to playing the RH DOW army lists so here goes... If DOW had access to the common Magic items in the 8th core rules could a skilled general put together a competitive (tournament) army list?

I haven’t played WFB in years, but while reading the PDFs I came across some weird stuff, like the birdmen flying and shooting crossbows without penalty. Maybe there are some other shenanigans I’m missing.

Thanks for reading! The dogs of war army has always fascinated me. Please share your stories of playing with or against them here as well!

I mean you could try. The main problem with Doge of War/Regiments of renown is that they are overpriced for what they do. Heck they were overpriced when the list was released in 6th edition as well. Playing with them 2 editions later doesn't really help with that problem. You can certainly put together a fun list but competitive? Not really from what I've seen.

Also yes, they would get access to the Common magic list like everyone else.

Thanks for reading. If it was possible I think we would have heard about it by now. I’ll try to post pictures of some stand in models I have painted this week.

You can just use Eliasson's regiments of renown reworked rules.

Made specifically for 8th and work just fine.

Honestly the 8th edition core rules kind of help the DOW in most respects. The only thing they really lack is monstrous cav or the multiple root attacks infantry that seem to permeate 8th. Pikes rules are in their list, so no change.

For 4-6th WFB, 2-5th 40k, and similar timeframe gaming

Looking for dice from the new AOS boxed set and Dark Imperium on the cheap. Let me know if you can help.

2nd this! I use Regiments of Renown quite often in my games. I hardly ever play Orcs without my unit of Ruglud's. Gotrek & Felix are regulars in my Slayer Army. The Eliasson list really brings the points more into line with 8th.

I have messed around with RoR but my full DoW army hasn't hit the table since 7th. They are in the queue for my painting table.

@Mr. S Baldrick: that’s awesome!

I‘m starting to think that with a horde of pikemen/paymasters bodyguard bolstered with life Magic, an ogre horde with great weapons and lots of shooting, the tileans could have a chance...

Life magic or Beasts. Giving those pikemen +1S & +1T isn't a bad idea either

^^^ I was thinking the same thing ^^^

I read the updated fan army book this week and it is really well done. Despite this I still think the PDF list is a bit slept on. If life is merciful I’ll post a list here for criticism and comments this weekend.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

One way of doing Dogs of War is to allow the player to choose up to seven army books. You may take 0-1 Core and 0-1 character from each book with no special characters allowed. Then 0-1 special or rare choice from each book.
Army specific rules do not apply for good or ill and only common magic items can be added.
No formal restrictions exist but you will have to come up with a good reason why you have a Witch elf Hag Queen leading Empire Spearmen and a Warlock Engineer leading High Elf Archers all in the same army led by an Dwarf King.
Normally most things are explained away with 'counts as'. So the Hag Queen is a Whirling Dervish from Araby and the spearmen are her retinue of desert warriors, while the Warlock Engineer is a brilliant but cowardly high elf alchemist with his own elven retinue. Both hired by a master engineer from Miragliano who wears custom steam powered power armour which gives him incredible toughness at the cost of speed.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.
