Hey guys,

Got a quick one about the new Chaplain stratagem. It lets you automatically pass a litany so long as you:
A) haven’t recited any litanies with that chaplain yet this turn, and
B) it has to “recite one litany that has not already been recited by a friendly model this turn”.

My question is, if I had a chaplain who had already attempted it that turn but failed, does that count as it having been recited? Or is it only “recited” if the roll is successful?

For example, I have two chaplains and both know exhortation of rage. I roll to recite it with my first chaplain but the role fails. Can I now attempt it with the second chaplain? Or have I missed my opportunity and now I can only cast the basic litany?

I’m assuming that even a fail still counts as you reciting it, but wanted to check.

Thanks! ☺️

The wording on reciting is key here. I don't know it, but the gist is:

If it says "pick a litany to recite, and roll a dice, on a fail, the litany fails" then you did pick it and recite it, but did so badly. I suspect this to be the case.

If it says "pick a litany and roll a dice, on a pass the litany is recited and the unit does stuff" then a fail would not cause it to have been recited.

From what I have seen in the 9th edition codex, you recite a litany, and then check to see if it is inspiring.

Even if it fails to inspire, it is still recited.

I agree. Fluff-wise, the chaplain is giving a rousing speech to encourage his troops. The roll is to check if his oratory abilities are sufficient that the men actually buy into what he is saying. Either way, he still says it.
