Hi,

Regarding Sanctuary from the Santic discipline, as this is cast in the psychic phase, a Purifier unit would then gain a 5+ invul.

On the opposing turn, if the unit is targeted, the stratagem 'Untainted and Unbowed' can be used to gain a 4+ invul.

Please confirm if both buffs are in use, whether the unit would benefit from a 3+ invul.

My take is because Sanctuary was cast first, followed by U&U, then the unit only benefits from a 4+. If it was cast the other way round then 3+ would have been possible.

Thanks

Can you list the actual rules text?

Because if Sanctuary grants a 5+ Invuln, and U&U grants a 4+, you would only get a 4+. I don't see where you'd even get the idea that a 3+ would come into play.

Sanctuary from the Santic discipline says "...the invulnerable save of that unit is improved by 1 (to a maximum of 3+)."

So that is how a 3+ can come into play.

Good to know.

Yeah, seems to me that you'd get a 3++ then. With U&U granting a 4++, and Sanctuary improving it by one, you'd have a 3++ while both last.

Yes, the 4++ is improved to a 3++.

I agree, but have to point out that I feel it's only because of modifying the dice roll - not because the timing of the castings allows it.
Sanctuary's text:

"If manifested, pick a friendly Grey Knights unit within 12" of the psyker. That unit gains a 5+ invulnerable save until the start of your next Psychic phase.
If any models in the target already have an invulnerable save, add 1 to any invulnerable saving throws you take for them until the start of your next Psychic phase instead."

Emphasis mine - if this changed the Save instead of the die roll, you'd make that check when the power is cast and be screwed by the unit having to already have that save in place.
Because it's on the dice roll, I read this as you checking whether that save is in place when you make the roll.
