Hey everyone! I am looking to start FEC but I don't want to blow a huge budget (just bought 3 mega gargants) and was thinking along the lines of the list below. I'll be running them as Gristlegore and looking at a 1k list to start off.

Abhorrant Ghoul King on Royal Terrorgheist
-General
-Monstrous Vigor

Abhorrant Archregent
-Spectral Host

10x Crypt Ghouls
10x Crypt Ghouls

The above can be formed with 1 start collecting, an archregent and a box of ghouls and the left overs can be used for summoning. Oh and of course the terrain piece.
This leaves me with some balance points but i am not sure if i should be taking some endless spells or add more ghouls. (i guess i could always add a 2nd start collecting or box of ghouls if need be)
Any advice you can give on the list / what to buy / generally for FEC would really help me.

Thanks in advance

What you need to buy is more Start Collecting boxes. That's just how you build FEC and it is easy. Paint one box, get another, repeat until 2000 points.

Varghulf Courtiers are btw very nice. If you get yourself a Ghoul King on Zombie Dragon you can summon him with your ghouls and wreak havoc in your enemy's flank.

Yep. You build your entire army out of Start Collecting Boxes and Archregent kits. Start Collecting is truly the best thing for this army, it has everything* you need. Sprinkle in some Vargulfs for flavor.

And, as a side of advice. Don't play Gristlegore unless you're in a competitive meta where people bring hardhitting tournament caliber lists to every match. Or, do bring it to casual matches and be prepared to lose friends and acquaintances. Gristlegore Terrorghiests may no longer be the tippy-top of tournaments, but they're still very powerful.

Thanks for the quick reply and help. I have never played FEC but i wanted a monster mash sorta list so i went gristlegore. I will take note that it is not a friendly court.

I see a lot of resources recommending 3x start collecting but if i do that after filling 2 min battleline i only have 10 leftover ghouls but the archregent can call in 20. Do you suggest getting 4x start collecting instead??

If you want models get more start collecting sets. There's even an army option that lets you exceed the normal monstrous creature limit taking a whole army of zombie dragons/terrorgasts. So nothing in them is wasted.

Basically FEC are perhaps one of the cheapest armies to collect right now, its just getting started set after set to bulk up your army for what you need.

That's the not-so-friendly gristlegore composition.

But yeah 3-4 SC box is pretty easy choice unless you are planning for specific build and no more. If you know you won't be fielding big monsters except maybe 1 but instead do like 15 flayers SC box is not that good. But if you want to field various type of forces 3-4 or even more wouldn't go amiss. 3 unmounted terrorgheist, 2 mounted terrorgheist for example would be pretty common giving various options.

If you plan to go for flayer/horror heavy forces or ghoul spam eventually you reach point SC boxes aren't that needed. Or do you REALLY need 16 big monsters?-) But for start 3-4 SC box easily. Then start considering do you need more big monsters.
