Subject: This is a must watch but not for the reason originally intended.
Its a scene from the excellent Space Battleship Yamato live action film of 2010. This segment is autotranslated into Korean, then into English. As it was SF Japanese to begin with and not a directly regonisable language the double autotranslate came up with some fairly ludicrous lines.
I know the scene well but when I tried auto-translate I asked myself if this was a deliberate joke, but no, I activated the autotranslate myself and chose the language.
Enjoy.

I kinda liked this show, but good ghawd they could not have picked a worse name for the ship or a source for a supership to save mankind.
If you look up the history of the actual super battleship yamato the japanese built in ww2 you'll find an unleavened record of failure, wasted resources, embarrassing failure and total disaster.
The real yamato was an utter waste of resources that didn't do a damn thing in ww2 except retreat from a vastly inferior american taskforce and then got sunk by carrier launched planes. She was an absolute fiasco.
They should have named the ship Yamamoto, the best, smartest and wisest damn admiral the japanese had in ww2.

Yeah, it was a conscious choice to carry some nationalist and Japanese national identity themes that are probably too political to get into here.
Its not a hard-to-find topic if you're interested, however. Its not even unique to Space Battleship Yamato. Japanese pop culture tended to do something with the ship on a regular basis.

Those subtitles are weird though. There were some that felt entirely random, but ah, a couple that did not. One particularly NSFW one was something about what he'd like to do with the girls.
I did see some variation though- that line about the 'Kyosei lubricator' was 'Kyosei gasoline' for me.
The really weird one was when the 'target-o scope' was requested (the wacky handheld firing mechanism, complete with trigger), which was mostly English. The subtitle was incoherent gibberish- 'No more and no more 5'

Well, one story i heard was in the show the actual starship was built under the wreck of the yamato to conceal the activity from enemy sensors because the radar couldn't penetrate the metallic mass of the wreckage.
Considering the yamato was pounded to a blazing wreck for like 2 hours by dive bombers and toprpedo planes, she capsized, her port magazine which was full of ammo for her 18" guns exploded creating a mushroom cloud 4 miles high that was seen on an island 99 miles away and when her wreck was identified in 1984 she was in 2 large pieces that had been soaking in salt water for decades I'm imagine starting fresh would be easier than trying to rebuild the wreck of a ship that was a bad idea to begin with (A battleship was less useful than a carrier even at the time.) and who'se service life was perfect record of waste, uselessness, retreat and failure.
I honestly can't understand why the japanese revere that ship so much, her retreat at leyte gulf was foolish at best, sheer cowardice at worst. Maybe they get taught a different history than I did.
But hey, I still like starblazers and see elements of it in some america SF. The series babylon 5 crusade was a total...take off on starblazers.

I'm not talking politics here, just solid documented historical data.

They did a pretty decent job if a bit to condensed for my liking on the live action movie. there were some great scenese that paid homage to TV series episode form the original
The 2015 re-make of the first season(uchu senkan yamato 2199) really knocked it out of the park so to speak. beautifully animated. great re-creation of the soundtrack while updating the story a bit.
I have already watched it like 4 times.
I also have all the soundtracks for the live action move as well as the 2199, and 2202 tv series
i suggest going to otaku streamers and watching it there

Matt the reason the Yamato is still an icon in japan is for many reasons
.the name yamato is the original name they gave their nation before it became known as nihon/nippon or japan so the ship was literally the embodiment of the people.
.the reason for the super battleship program was a direct response to the washington naval treaty (see video below)
.the final voyage of the yamato also was the idolized vision of the bushido warrior code. going out to fight one last battle knowing they would likely die but they would die with honor in battle.

Still the japanese should have listened to Yamamoto when he said "In modern naval warfare a battleship is about as useful as a samurai sword." As to the super battleships he said:
"These ships are like elaborate religious scrolls, which old people hang up in their homes. They are purely a matter of faith, not reality."
History judged him right.
