Throwing together a Custard Men list and I'm looking at the 2 types of termi's i got and wondering which one is better? Now i know better is a subjective term here as they both seem to fill slightly different roles as Aquillon's seem to want to aim at vehicles and bigger targets while Allarus want to drop in and chew through chaff/backlines. How do the 2 play in 9th so far? In the end i'll probably just get like 6 of each just to have em, but for starting out i'd like a better idea of how they both perform? I'm not looking for like super tournament play level army, but a bit competitive wouldn't hurt. Oh and how does the Sword and Board dreadnought fair? In my local area i'm the only custodes player so its hard to get a good base for these things.

Allarus are pretty dull, they’re just generic custodes in slightly thicker plate (Also have you seen the back of the torso? Kinda ugly there) with a piddly wrist grenade.

Aquillons are true terminators, with upgunned weaponry. Thematically speaking it’s up to you whether you think them mimicking the loadouts of marine terminators so closely is a good thing, but personally at least that’s *something* distinct from non-terminator custodes.

In conclusion, GW/FW please give me access to an Aquillon shield captain.

Oh and to answer your question more bluntly, I’d lean more towards FW terminators because they fill a different role to the custodes you get out of the base codex, whilst Allarus kinda don’t.

Take the models you like best visually, both are good. Aquilon termis hit harder, but allarus have amazing stratagems.

Be aware that aquilon terminators are made from resin and are therefore more difficult to work with than allarus termis, which are made from plastic.

Allarus fill a niche that literally no other unit in the entire Custodes line does along with doing several other niches the army has well. They have a stratagem that lets them target characters in shooting as well as one to double their rapid firing, making them excellent character assassins. Unleash the Lions allows them to split a brick of Allarus into one man units to seriously feth up the efficiency of the enemy's ability to kill you.

Aquillons are better at tank busting, but Allarus can do it okay as well. Allarus are better than Aquillons. They're also cheaper.

Aquillons aren't bad though and can definitely be better for your comp.

“Allarus are better than aquillons because they have a sniper stratagem” seems like a very bold claim, but you do you I guess.

Visually, I think they both look great, though yes the aquillon's look more like actual terminators.

In-game Allarus are better. They cost basically 10pts less per model for almost the same stats, and they have more stratagem support, and they can take more models per unit.

I use Aquillons cause i own 9 of them but the allarus are definately superior atm.

Aquillon's only real advantage is the number of shots they get (8 each with superior fire patterns strat) and the fact that they get str10 in melee (with extra AP). The damage is the same and the number of attacks is the same.

Do we need to strike a 4chan conversational tone? “You didn’t type an extensive refutation so you agree with me now despite stating you didn’t” is literally only useful for reply fishing.

Well saying that the sniper strat isn't a valid reason could also due with a bit of support. A unit of custodes being able to bipass other units and kill vital characters is pretty freaking powerful when placed in the right spot shooting the right characters.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Vigo. Spain.

"Most competitive custodes lists are running 8-9 fething Allarus that are basically half the list" is, I believe, a compeling argument for them being actually good.

There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

If you don't want to be treated badly then act better my friend. You ignored most of my post and attacked only one of them, which implies to me that you couldn't articulate why I was wrong but rather than conceding or even just bowing out gracefully you responded with a snide comment that dismissed it out of hand.

You may be reading too much into me being incredulous that sniping is enough of a niche to make them “Better”. The other points seemed trivial, particularly given that I’m under the impression either terminator type can use the double shot stratagem. Incredulity isn’t taking a snipe.

Also you seem to have decided to be combative and trying to “win” this discussion.

yeah i looked more into it and watched some batreps im going with Allarus for now if not just because its like 60$ cheaper to field them, but i will be buying a 6 man squad of Aquillons as well for side board. I'm hoping with the forgeworld book dropping and naming the Galatus/Aquillions i might see a bit of a change with them cuz atm they look pretty fun to play

Aquilons are a very easy fix. Just +1 wound with no points changes.

This keeps them relevent compared to allarus. They cost more but are more durable.

They already use bigger bases and are slightly beefier looking so it makes sense that way as well.

With the exception of knights (high wound T8+) and hordes of chaff, Allarus are the better take, hands down. I have won games of my opponent forgetting my Allarus can snipe their character out from behind their shield of 20 chaff. Their d2 axe shooting from 6-9 guys is no joke. Then their launcher strats are insanely valuable. I never understood the hate that Allarus pulled from some posters. "Oh they are trash compared to Aquillons" says someone who's never had their warlord sniped turn 2. Now, with 9th having a lot of characters getting insane invulns, I do think Allarus will start to fade back into the shadows, but right now, as Void Dragon pointed out, Allarus are clearly better.

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high

So Aquilons get the following for 10 points.

Strength 10 (magic number vs incoming mass t5 infantry, and anything t8)
AP-4 Fists (Clutch vs power armor and stormshields to force 4++ saves)
Stormbolters providing ample firepower out to 24 inches. 2 Shots each from 12"-24", compared to 1 shot from Allarus.

For 1CP, the Aquilons each get 8 shots with those str 5 stormbolters inside 12. For 1cp more, they can also grab auto wounding on 6s to hit with that bucket of dice.
Yes, their stormbolters are 1 damage, but they will wound more easily vs t4, t5, and t8.

I run Aquilons frequently. They're excellent.
I've seen Allarus work well, but their utility relies on a constant stream of CP to fuel them. While the CP lasts, they're extremely flexible, and more than strong enough to tackle most threats. With good dice they can delete characters with shooting and then charge their screens offering very powerful utility. Aquilons are slightly more independent IMO.

Aquilons, can and will, assuming average damage rolls, punch out a knight a turn in melee.

YMMV.

TLR

Allarus for hunting characters. Aquilons for slamming into whatever primary threat your opponent put onto the table, and deleting it.

Is there a match that anyone has had where they ran Aquillons and they weren't the obvious primary target of the entire army?

Aquillons can do melee and shooting better than Allarus. Allarus also have dedicated strats that are ridiculously powerful, from knocking out the ability to overwatch (More powerful in 8th admittedly, but still) to being d3 shots in assault, and blast so that's 5 shots per model in DS range against hordes, and like it was said they can target characters. Slayer of tyrants gives them a free 3 inch pile in (towards the nearest character) move if the charge doesn't go off, they can still make it to combat. (Unsure if this still works in 9th) and finally the axes are going to get a buff this edition. If every other weapon is getting a fixed damage profile, axes are likely right there.

So how badly is the prediction for the Forgeworld stuff points wise are we looking for the Noughts and the Termis i mean most other termis went up like 2-5 points per model not including weaponry. And the Galatus is already overpriced as is. I'm not looking forward to what they're gonna do to my TElemon either he's gonna be like 300+ points now almost guarantee it.

Last I checked, winning custodes lists repped both.

It depends on how all in you need to be on your termies. A major benefit allarus has is that the squad can go up to 10, meaning more strat efficiency for the unit your strategy is revolving around

However some of the more successful lists are relying on the area, in which case the terminators don’t make up the main thrust of the list and aquillons Are a Better compliment to what the ares are good at. Aquillion provide superior anti infantry firepower that allarus

Bumping this thread to let you know that Aquilons just got quite a bit better.

Fist and bolter is now 5 points cheaper, fist is flat 2 damage, firepike is 15" range, and adrathic option is slightly cheaper. Good stuff all around.

Aquilon seem decent. I have 10 allarus and I just got 6 Aquilon delivered. I am going to read a bit more about them since I was thinking about returning them but I might keep them. We will see.
