Hey there folks!

The original title would be : What do you say to a custom paint of let's say Sanguinary Guard? Questions on paint scheems and rules about that. Help geting in to the hoby of painting and a looot of other things!

The Subject woun't let me write a whole esay ahha so I hope some of you will get to this thread and see past subject
(BTW If you'v posted something simmilar (or don't want to write it again) in some other threads or know of them pleas them, that would help too)

Cusom paint Sangunary Guard?
I can't find any examples on the net. Is it a thing?
Can I do it?
How many of you guys would mind if I played them in a tournament? Can I eaven do it in a tournament?

I'm new to this and a little bit frightened of painting something and then not likeing it in the end.

Now the other thing.
I like the look of Blood Angels. I realy dig the red color scheem and the black of the Death Guard. I like this concept of a few colors and the whole army not looking the same.
So then would you mind if I painted my whole army in Mephiston Red and told you I would "play them as" Black Angels or Imperial Fists?
I read some things that peaople don't like when you do something like that, so I'm a bit afraid. Is it true?

I wold like to buy some Space Wolves units too and paint them red mby? Is that okay?

Then again, I'm new to this hoby and I would love to come up with my original custom paint scheem and a custom chapter but I'm afraid that I will screw up (minies cost a lot). I only have a small set of Space Marines at this time and I would not want to buy a paint stripper for 5 models, Maby one day when I build a solid army then I'l strip them down and paint them my way (in the mean time I will build my skill in painting and all that).

I'm in the process of buying paints now and I'm mashing my hed in the wall so much haha
Sooo yeah....

Thanks for reading!!!

Wow. My first reaction is to say, chill out! It seems like you're pin balling around all these things with no real goal or direction of travel. This is understandable. The 40k universe is massive and has many cool things to enjoy. But you need to ease into it in order to not become overwhelmed and burn out before you even begin.

If you like blood angels, have a go at painting some. Take it slow and follow guides if you think they will help.
Focus on learning the basic skills of painting. There is a wealth of information online. Use it.

Units and scheme wise, it's your hobby. I wouldn't put too much stock into what other people think.

I will say that you are likely to hate some of your paint jobs. Especially if you are totally new to painting. If not immediately, then later once you look back. This is fine. It's normal. You can always repaint or strip and repaint your models later if you want. Or leave them as progress markers if you wish.

Paint your models however YOU want

You want rainbow coloured Blood Angles - go for it
You want bright pink Necrons - go for it
You want red and black Space Wolves - go for it!

Broadly speaking very few events ever mandate that you paint your models "correctly"* and in all honestly outside of very generic concepts in the Space Marines army (eg Blood Angels are red/black; Space wolves are blue/white etc...) most people have not got a single clue what so ever of what all the army and sub-faction official schemes are anyway.

*most being GW only events and I believe the whole "official schemes" thing got enough pushback it has mostly been abandoned.

It was mostly for marines and mostly when marines were taking lots of allies so you'd have someone with Blood Angles with Spacewolves allies and they'd both be painted in the same colours etc.... Ergo making it a bit confusing what was what.

Broadly speaking if you take allies/detatchments from other subfactions you should make it clear on those models that they are different. That might be a different scheme or might be a paint colour on the rim of the base etc....

If these are your first models
You need to learn the basics of painting, so stick to something basic, don't try to get professional paint job first time, it will turn out bad.
Aim for a clean neat finish, you'll learn more from this
Accept that your first models will not be perfect, you'll find that as you paint more you will understand the process more leading to well painted models.
Have fun! That's all the hobby is about.

Here is an old picture of all the chapters, as you can see they are painted like rainbows.

If you look for blood angels successor chapters you will find they have very different colours for their sanguinary guard
