After a bit of advice. I'm still waiting for my copy of Indomitus but I'm trading the Necrons I'll get, for my friends Primaris Marines from his box set.

I've also bought a Redemptor Dread with Gatling Cannon.

I've made a 2000 point Battleforce (my own chapter) using the models I'll have (plus a Stormhawk Interceptor) - it fits in the Battalion Detachment.

I went for Warded as Chapter Tactic and Warlord Trait - Rites of War.

Primaris Captain - Burning Blade, Relic Shield
Primaris Chaplain
Primaris Lieutenant - Volkite Pistol

4 x 5 Assault Intercessors (2 with plasma pistols)

6 Bladeguard Veterans
Redemptor Dreadnought
Judicar
Bladeguard Ancient

Edit - 6 Eradicators
2 x 3 Outriders

Stormhawk Interceptor with Typhoon.

As I have not played 40k for a long time, never mind the 9th ed, is this list awful or am I on the right lines?

Advice appreciated.

That seems quite heavy on the melee, if someone brings a tank or two, how will you deal with it?

If your friend plays necrons there is likely going to be a lot of shooting coming at you also.

If you ever play with "that guy" remember this :
"there may be times when you are not sure exactly how to resolve a situation that has come up during play. When this happens, have a quick chat with your opponent and apply the solution that makes the most sense to both of you (or seems the most fun!), If no single solution presents itself, you and your opponent should roll off, and whoever rolls the highest gets to choose what happens." Is this list due to limit of models? Or is it themed via your chapter? Also what equip does the dreadnought have or what meta do you usually face or see in your area? The list is decent enough just not a lot of range/heavy support for tougher armies I.e Astra militarum or tank heavy lists

Well, I don't play anyone yet, it's my first list and will be used against Necrons. The list is made with the models I'll have from 2 Indomitus sets plus the Redemptor Dread with Gatling cannon and Stormhawk. For some reason I accidentally missed the Eradicators off the list. There's 6 of them. Would that help?

They certainly will, although I still feel you are missing something like intercessors that can put out a good number of bolter shots.

If your friend has just got the other half of the indomitus set, then he is going to have a at least 20 warriors and they are going to be shooting your melee guys from distance, Necrons have a few tricks that can give problems for charging units and he will have melee destroyers who are quite handy in melee too.

On the plus side, he is not going to have any tanks unless he already has models.

Given your limited models, just play the game and have fun, then you can maybe "play as" some units to see how they go before shelling out money

Automatically Appended Next Post:
you might want to look at some of the box sets that are coming out, one like this will give you some basic troops and a transport to get your bladeguard up and in peoples face, which is where they want to be having a psychic option is nice too, especially against Necrons as they have very few defences against psychic threats.

Seeing as you really haven't played, just make sure you and your friend are both within the pts limit and play a few quick games.
You are starting out here, so there's no need to try and pad out your army list as of yet. Just use this time to get used to the new rules and changes to the system, which thankfully you'll be spared from. With not having played the last few editions. So you'll be stepping into this with a bit of a fresh learning curve.

After this initial learning phase, just find out what you either need, or would like to add to your forces.

I would take the time to offer up either taking Attack bikes, or an invader ATV in the fast attack slot, and maybe a Hellblaster squad as well.
Safer and it could end up saving you a few points, as well as a few bucks.

One has to wonder. Do the Tyranids consider drop-assault troops... fast food?

I think for your first few games doing 500-750 point games I started out doing small games as to not have to many rule lookups/mixups during play. Than from there after you feel comfortable playing bigger games and adding different models for test/final lists

When you make a custom chapter you get to choose 2 chapter tactics.

With that much melee you should look at 1 of the melee focused tactics.

Warded is nice, but it only works on Mortal Wounds and unless you run into a lot of those in your local area (such as multiple psykers or snipers) it might not get much mileage.

As such another option might get you more mileage.

As a bonus, your own chapter you can use tactics, relics and warlord traits from another chapter Codex supplement. They are all free on the app. That gives you more strategies and buffs across the board.

Another option is to run the them as one of the melee focused chapters and be a Primaris founding of them.
