How do you store your incomplete miniatures? I try to work on several at a time and I am trying to figure out the best way to store my ongoing unfinished projects?

For example, I partially assembled 2 leman russ tanks but I am waiting on some parts to do a conversion so I put them aside to work on my Tyranid Malceptor.

I was thinking something clear would probably be useful so it would be easy to see what it is.

What do you guys use?

In a closed box, smaller parts in a clear jewelry beads bag of suitable size next to it. I typically try to prep some work ready to prime and set it aside, if I start painting it, I finish it.

I bought a bunch of clear plastic boxes - about shoe box size, from the local art store.

If it's a project that involves lots of small bits I put them in a plastic baggy then put that in the box.

So far it's helped keep things organized pretty well.

I prefer to buy from miniature manufacturers that *don't* support the overthrow of democracy.

Mine usually end up in my smaller display cabinet, or on various shelves or windowsills in my house. I should be more organised. I keep my built stuff awaiting paint in a small peli case with random shreds of bubble wrap wrapped round them.

On a large shelf of shame. And a cabinet of shame. And anywhere else they can loom disapprovingly over me on a daily basis.

In a box, in the cupboard of shame.
Which has opaque doors, so they can't do ^^ that at me.

Sure they can be disapproving all they like, I just don't have to see it.

I like to wrap half painted models in cling film so they don't get dusty or greasy from handling.

I have mine on the bottom shelf of my cabinet, in clear storage boxes sort of plastic shoe box size and I have a couple of tanks in a drawer.

This.

Pushed to the back of my workbench, so I’m still in range of their disapproving looks.

It helps keep their numbers down. Once I start something, it normally gets done and not put on hold. It might take all summer (Looking at you, drop pod #3) but eventually they pass the “I just need to finish this darn thing” point and make their way across the line.

To go collect dust on the finished project shelves...

I have the Clear Plastic Storage Boxes of Shame, that hold a LOT of unpainted, or sometimes just primed, models.

Vehicles are just carefully placed in said boxes, accessories in bags, whilst individual figures are in bags in a large box.

A few "active" models are on the desk, in various stages of painting and, usually, require a careful dusting before work resumes.

Is it bad that my primary involvement in the hobby is "buying and building" rather than "painting" ?

I put mine in a box, and put that box in a cupboard. Last time I checked, I had about 4 boxes in there.

I recommend not putting them in a box - keep them visible!

@Fictional, nope, I have exactly the same problem; I love to build models, particularly reposing, kit-bashing and conversions, but I just don’t have the same enthusiasm for painting.

I always view the painting process as the act of turning a potentially awesome model/conversion to a mediocre table-top finished piece.

But I play WYSWYG, and I only play painted. So it gets done. And I get (very slowly) better. Another 3 decades of this, I might be above average!

I enjoy painting, but sometimes it’s a chore. Not cleaning mold lines level of chore, but sometimes it drags.

Oh, I enjoy painting, mostly, i just get stuck every time once I reach a certain point, so move on to something else.

Either that, or I get more ideas about what I want to do, and go with that for a while.

In general I store unfinished projects on any horizontal surface I can find. Unless they are magnetized, in which case vertical surfaces are also an option.

That place is the harsh dark future far left with only war left.

Really useful boxes, takeaway boxes/ tupperware for smaller stuff.

Some projects are never ending. Armies can always use more units, games have expansions, etc.

But projects like “convert 5 running intercessors” are limeted in scope, and can in theory be finished.

To make room for the next project...
