I have seen on the internet people doing clever things with salt and boiling water to make crystals. Anyone made any sodium or other crystals for use in making it diaramas and what were your expletives? Do they need to be solidified with varnish or something?

Not sure id bother. There are plenty acrylic "crystals" out there for cheap that will probably look better than anything id make. Also, not sure how salt and paint+ plastic works long term..
But then again i use baking powder and superglue for basing on occasion..

So I will say that salt crystals are probably a bad idea for multiple reasons not the least of which is water or soda or any number of liquids that would ruin your model if that crystal gets wet. Varnish won't protect them completely and you'll end up sad in the long run.
That being said, it's a great way to make a mold. Ever hear of Blue stuff? Go check it out. You make a one time mold from some salt crystals, pull them out and use them for your next pot of water when you make spaghetti or whatever. Then you fill that mold you made with some UV resin and then you #winning like Charlie Sheen in 2002.

Thanks guys, using them with blue stuff is a good idea. I have acrylic crystals but the ones I have seen people make are quite big and benefit from a very natural crystallisation shape, like large chunks of quartz.
I’m 100%getting some liquid frost it looks incredible

I do not know how long liquid frost stays good or survives transportation. Can you seal in? But yeah it looks great!

I’m also hoping there is a way to colour the frost, I feel like there’s some great potential here.

You CAN color the frost but it is saline so the crystals do melt. GSW has a video on it here
