After 10 years my old lgs has reopened and I can finally start playing games but a lot has changed in that time so I decided to start fresh with a new army here is my first draft of what im hoping for
this is a brigade ( i think)
we have

that's 997 points
As you can see I'm going for a star wars theme with the rebel alliance (Focusing on Endor Battle)
I'm not sure how efective guard is without all there heavy tanks but other then sentinels they don't really fit look I'm going for at least until I get more confident with my conversions .
small rules I'm aiming for with army
All Characters are from star wars universe
no tanks outside sentinels any tanks I add to list will be at higher point values
any advice for starting guard and 9th edition as a whole would be helpful

I like the teme. You gonna use some Star Wars minis for that? That would look nice. Btw I think you are lacking some anti tank power. Id take some more lascanons or atleast meltas on those infantry. If you face some transports or walkers or tanks you wont be able to take them down. Also, what are your regimental doctrines? They should be complementing the style of play you plan.
Also just one more thing that could add up to the star wars theme. Heirloom item Blade of Conquest (replace a power sword) is great for character killing and could be modeled as a lightsabre

Maybe you can use chimeras as ligth tanks. Unsure how it fits with the star wars theme but surely they can pass as speeders., as a lack of better idea. Ok I revised the list (one of the reasons I started thread before buying any models) to add more anti tank

Loved the idea of adding mandolorians (the tempesters) and the bullgyrn where a bit off a point sink for1k
do the heavy weapon squad boxes come with 3 of each heavy weapon or only one of each? either way this loadout means i only need to buy the 3 sets (extra from start collecting box)
not too sure on the ratlings since Im not sure how good snipers are and I hate metal models other option would be a command squad with medipack and mortor(so it can shoot and be hidden) or maybe astropath (c3po maybe?) and platoon commander (Lando)

Note.
You could take a full on inquisitor and give him a blaster pistol (inferno, or plasma) and a force sword (or dual ended force staff) and the psyker powers "dominate and psychic pursuit" to make a REAL jedi.
That's a guy who can use the force to smite, but also to warp the brains of the weak minded to bend them to his will, and even use the force to pick out his singular target (a character) in the middle of a big firefight where normal soldiers wouldn't hav ethe opportunity.

The theme would work better with a weird mix of rules for any Killteam game, or even a necromunda build.
And if you are going for a primaris Psyker. Just be more on the nose and them him after Darth Vader.
Make your Sentinel and Heavy weapon crews more uniform. Because just spreading their weapon choices out will make it to where they can't handle certain threats, or will just severely limit the groups effectiveness against any one target.
The Sentinels can be kept as scouts, loaded down with their heavy flamers and then spend the whole game flanking enemy formations with nothing but auto-hitting attacks. Or you can run them all as Armored Sentinels with plasma and support your Ogryn squad with them.
For your Heavy Weapon squads. Autocannons are your best friends, if you aren't taking them for their lascannon shots. They generally outperform both heavy bolters and the mortars on reliable damage. The only thing the mortar has going for it at this point is Blast, and that's pretty niche as it is.

ok after looking at suggestions I got another armylist

Automatically Appended Next Post: with above list a lot of things Im not sure about Like inquisitor while the idea sounds awsome and will actually do more then primarus shielding my heavy weapons dont have the book and rules for him so not sure on his rules
sentinels I decided on the flamer scouts since ogryns not going to be in my 1k list
the veterens not sure if a second lascannon shot a turn would be better then 3 extra grenades a turn
as for regiments I was intially planning cadian but with 9th rules wanting you to push forward that doesn't seem as viable and not sure what id change to
