Malevolent Arcing (1 CP): When firing a Tesla weapon, roll a d6 for each unit within 6" of the target; on a 4+, the unit suffers a MW.

My reading from this source says that if I've got a unit of say 5 tomb blades with tesla weapons, I could target 5 different units to get this effect off.

So if a character for example is surrounded by 5 units all conveniently within 6" of each other; using this strat and split firing a tesla weapon at each of the 5 units means this effect would occur 5 times and the character would have to go through 4 of those die rolls to see if it cops the mortal each time- same for the units (except only 4 times because one is dropped for being the target of one of the tesla).

Is this how it can workwork,?

Where's that wording from, as it's different in the app?

You use the stratagem when a model from your army fires a tesla weapon. It only works for the single model that you use it on.

This is why quoting stratagems in full is important.

Use this Stratagem in your Shooting phase, when a NECRONS model from your army targets an enemy unit with a tesla weapon. After making that weapon's attacks, roll one D6 for each other unit within 6" of that enemy unit: on a 4+, the unit being rolled for suffers 1 mortal wound.

The stratagem only works off a single WEAPON, not a UNIT.

Use this Stratagem in your Shooting phase when a Necrons model from your army targets an enemy unit with a tesla weapon.

It's not even model, it's a single weapon that model has.

I suppose it matters how many enemy units are within 6" of the target.

And what. Ork boyz whatever. Character on last wound? Much tastier.

Not every stratagem has　to be use every turn op level

Might be good for sniping a wounded character

Not to mention a large unit that happens to be close to a high quantity of units. How many MWs does it take to be worth 1 CP?

1 mortal wound is worth 1 CP to be honest. One multi-damage hit is worth one CP to reroll a save.

This is why strats that let you double shoot are so strong. It is possible that the second shot does nothing however, which is why its only 2 CP to do so.

Now a unit that can do mortal wounds when they shoot getting to shoot twice......... That really shouldnt be allowed. Its too strong.

Heya BCB, hate to bring up an older post but I was hoping I could get some clarification from you on this issue.

I'm looking at a Tesseract Vault/Obelisk that has 4 Tesla type weapons...

Given the fact that you can target 4 different targets at the same time with 4 different weapons from one model, and the strat states:

"...when a NECRONS model from your army targets an enemy unit with a tesla weapon. After making that weapon's attacks..."

Am I wrong to read that 4 events are being triggered off of the strat being played as long as 4 (assumed 4) different targets are being selected for each weapon?

It's a single weapon. So you'd choose which of the 4 Tesla spheres the strat applied to in this case.

But isn't the trigger of the strat, the targeting of the unit?

I'm failing to see how the strat limits the effect to only one unit... (I do, however, see how it would limit it by model)

I guess it's the order of actions that I'm being a bit slow on... from what I read, you select your targets before you resolve your attacks correct?

So, you select 4 targets. This satisfies the first part of the strat, "...when a NECRONS model from your army targets an enemy unit..." the second part being "... with a tesla weapon..." that part is where I'm confused. If it were limited to only one weapon, would it not have to be called out as "... with one tesla weapon...". The text of "a tesla weapon" is in no way limiting to one unit (a single weapon yes as the criteria of being targeted by a tesla weapon has been met no matter how many weapons target the same unit) whereas "a tesla weapon" can be validated if you have 4 weapons targeting 4 different units.

It says a tesla weapon. Thats singular. It doesnt say all tesla weapons.

The stat literally says "after making that weapon's attacks". It only affects the weapon you choose. There really is no other way to read it. It's a Tesla weapon, singular. The fact you've selected targets first is irrelevant. You just apply the rules as the strat tells you to, and it tells you the strat applies to a single weapon.
