I know and understand there are metallic paints , but i was wondering if anyone had a good "rusted" or bronze method for painting minis. I wanted to give my custodes something of a unique paint job besides just the gold and i landed on gold/silver accents(instead of red) or doing a sort of rusted metal or bronze theme to them. BUT i haven't really been able to find any good pictures of what a bronze paint job would look like nor how to attempt to paint it so if anyone has tips here i would love you forever.
Second thing - Im trying to do a basing theme and if i am to do a bronze or rusted type theme for their paint job i have no clue what to do for their bases. I thought of maybe doing something sort of gothic? or maybe swampy? idk, ideas here would be great to kind of ping off of. Thanks guys/gals!
Well, bronze and rusted are 2 very different concepts. Rust, as in iron oxide, doesn't seem particularly becoming of custodes.
Bronze on the other hand is totally do able. Personally I'd do rhinox hide over a black basecoat, followed by warplock bronze, then add a brass tone to highlight.
If you look at the Ork sword, he's doing something interesting with local lighting which might be what you're after. Like other posters said, rust is hard to deal with on Custodes.
If you don't want to go NMM on your models, there are various metallic bronze colors in the GW range. But you should look at Vallejo and Vallejo's Metal Color ranges. They have some outstanding ones that are good for airbrushes and regular paintbrushes.
I've always liked the polished bronze color of this tutorial and it would look good on Custodes models IMHO:

If you don't get the answer you're looking for about rust, be more specific how you want your rust to appear! I've read enough rust tutorials that there are different rust techniques for whatever effect you're looking for. Hope you find the one you need!
So the rust color i was looking toward was that like OLD Divers Suits rusted color. And thanks guys ill be looking into it. I dont mind NMM, but i feel it's too "shiny" if that makes sense and i like the duller tones. That being saidi ill look into vallejo as i love their paints.
