I found an old thread that was basically this exact same question, but it came before 9th and the new Imperial Armour book so I don't think it is still relevant.

My question relates to the Imperial Guard Cyclops Demolition Vehicle. It's demolition charge is represented by a heavy-type weapon. It then has the following abilitiy:

Demolition Vehicle: When this unit is selected to shoot with its Cyclops demolition charge, you must target and resolve attacks against every visible unit within range (friendly and enemy). After this unit shoots with its Cyclops demolition charge, it is destroyed.

The old version used to say 'at the start of your shooting phase' but they changed it. Can the new version pay to fire overwatch, select its bomb to shoot with and then explode? If so, I assume that the charge automatically fails since there is nothing left to charge?

Also, the new overwatch wording says 'when a model fires Overwatch, it does so at the charging unit'. How does this interact with the Demolition Vehicle wording that says 'you must target and resolve attacks against every visible unit within range'?

We have two mutually exclusive, contradictory rules. This is a valid case of invoking TMIR.

Funnily enough, as you said, this means the charge cannot succeed, as they can't get within engagement range of the Cyclops. So if they multi-charge, the charge will fail.

Yes you can shoot the cyclops in overwatch now

(Provided it didn't disembark from a vehicle this turn. This matters if your cyclops was in a transport and the enemy killed the transport in the shooting phase you then don't have the option to overwatch)

When fireing overwatch you select the weapon profile and the specific rules on the weapon profile overrule the general rules of the game and you hit all targets within 6" includeing friendlys

After resolveing overwatch your cyclops will be removed.

The enemy must then roll their charge (normally irrelevant) then the enemys charge fails to reach the cyclops as its no longer on the table so the charge fails for all targets of that charge

Interesting, thank you.

Could be fun against armies like certain Daemons that have essentialy zero shooting

Note that as your Cyclops is firing on overwatch, it needs a 6 to hit all targets.

The weapon profile doesn't say it hits automatically and the rule I quoted above says that you still 'resolve attacks' against all enemies, which would include rolling to hit. It would probably make more sense for it to hit automatically (it's not like this this is aiming), but that's not what the rules say.
