How do people find using the rectangular silhouettes for LoS?
I don't play Infinity myself, but it's a concept that I like the sound of, it makes choices of model pose and such irrelevant, making it an attractive option to substitute into other games like Necromunda.
However, I worry that using the cylinders will slow things down and create weird moments where you got shot by someone you didn't think you could see, but who's silhouette extends beyond their model and is visible.
Is this something people have an issue with? Do you like the system compared to 'true line of sight' as used in other wargames like Kill Team or Necromunda?

I think it largely works great, though it helps a lot if you design your terrain with the Silhouettes in mind. Be clear with your opponent on the heights of things and use generally blockier terrain helps emphasize the focus on fire lanes.

I think the other reason it works well is simply because its rare you put a model in "hiding" without talking to your opponent whether it's hidden. There's a lot of LOS discussion during movement for ARO purposes, so if someone's nose is out, it usually comes up in the "any AROs" part of the action.

Also, didnĀ“t they just clarify the LoF thing with a "If I see you, you see me" ruling on the FAQs?

I usually play almost 100% true line of sight, silhouettes are mostly for very specific, hard to call situations.

The silhouette system works very well in the context of Infinity.

That way,then left

Another vote for the silhouettes work nicely,
they're mostly critical for the "weird" poses some models have, like the old Aleph daysius that's crawling .
I tend to play by intent though

Its works very nicely. You just need to always communicate with your opponent. This guy is prone. This guy is peeking out to cover this hallway. This guy is posed to see X guy but not Y. Etc...

The main problem is that its given the model designers too much freedom with pose creativity and they constantly make models that are so jank to actually use in a practical sense. Half their model range has a significant chunk of the model everywhere except their silhouette. Which makes properly facing them during a battle a real struggle.

Realistically, you will want to invest in some silhouette replacements that can fully stand in for where models are actually placed and use the real model as decoration when you can't fit them where they need to go.

I think the silhouette system works pretty well, but back in second edition I also went and printed out clear plastic silhouettes (to hold in front of or in back of models, so a person can go "Oh, yeah, that's where the silhouette is." without otherwise getting in the way).

It's worth keeping a few things in mind, though...

- The silhouette system means that you'll never have a "modeling for advantage" argument. See the 40k forums if you've never had the misfortune of that and want to know what it prevents.
- Corvus Belli had models with crazy poses way back before they had the silhouette system. People make jokes about "tactical rocks", but they had Noctifiers on stair cases, and models like the Caskuda and a few others with base extensions, all while having rules like "You can't draw line of sight to something extending past the base" and "You're allowed to substitute a 'standard' figure of the same size to use for line of sight".

But, really, what it comes down to is that when 3rd edition was announced, there was the expected amount of "cylinder doom" and the rest of the players were fine with it. In the end, Infinity is a game where people have fun with the silhouette concept by doing things like making (or buying) stand up camouflage, holo echo, and impersonation markers. And template sets like this one:

Or you play Ariadna and your entire army is camo tokens. I love occasionally pulling out my 30 camo token TAK force.

I quite like the change from N3 to N4 where even being partly in terrain gives you the benefit of concealing terrain. Stops you having to mess about working out tiny fractions to see whether you benefited from the cover and people gaming it.
