Hey all I’m getting back into 40K after years and it’s so different than what I remember!

I am playing Harlequins and I bought a subscription to the Warhammer App for the Core Rules, and I also have the Harlequins Codex and White Dwarf 454 for the Psychic Awakening rules too.

I had heard there were also points updates for armies for certain units and weapons - where can I find those? Is it Chapter Approved or in another edition of White Dwarf?

There are so many stratagems to keep track of as well! What are you guys doing to keep track of them in your games? I was going to buy the Stratagem Cards for sale for Harlequins but I don’t think they include the Psychic Awakening ones.

Thanks all!

You need the latest Chapter Approved for all points costs for books published prior to it.

Chapter Approved now no longer simply has points changes, it's the sole repository for points for books published prior to it and aren't covered in Legends. The points in any book published prior to it are invalidated.

Battlescribe and 1d4 chan is how I keep track of all the changes. They are unofficial however and may have errors and inconsistencies, not unlike GW rules. But it's usually up to date within a few weeks of releases and allows me to keep track of things more easily.

Some people like to print out cards or sheets with all the strategems also.

The reason I stopped buying GW rules is because they will be obsolete within a year of production. You used to be able to go years before rules and points were updated so the codex or whatever was worth the money. But now this is not the case.

Tournaments and some players will not allow you to play without the official rules however so keep that in mind. If you are just casually playing with friends I don't think it will matter much.

Square Bases for Life!
AoS is pure garbage
Kill Primaris, Kill the Primarchs. They don't belong in 40K
40K is fantasy in space, not sci-fi

Chapter approved does have the last points update for harelquins, but if you have a subscription to the app doesn't the newly trialed army builder have all the latest points costs in? (I can't actually get the app to work without crashing at every input so I wouldn't know).

Keeping track of all the stratagems is indeed a bit of a mental overload. I buy the card deck, pull out only the ones my army can actually use and organise by phase (e.g. movement phase, shooting phase, pre-game, any time, my opponent's turn etc.) I usually lay them out on the board edge in piles with the titles showing and just check what I have available at the start of each phase if I need a refresher. I've not had to really deal with psychic awakening strats much but you could either make up cards (photocopy the pages and glue them to playing cards?) for just create a cheat sheet
