Some of you may have seen my recent introductory post in the newb section... I have started collecting again (much to the dismay of my other half).

Turns out she was having a moan about me at work today with one of her colleagues who's son used to also collect Warhammer... You can see where this is going!

"I've got a box full up the loft that he can have!" She says.

Fast forward a few hours and she has just sent photos - it's a starter set from a few editions back. The Space Marines Vs Orks "assault on black reach" box set.

Poor quality images but from what I can see, it's mostly built and undercoated but otherwise, unpainted, with the exception of a few pieces.

I'll give her some cash out of goodwill of course, but what a score!!

The funniest part? My other half thinks this will mean that I spend less because I've got some cheap bits. The reality is, I now have three armies to grow instead of one...

I'm expecting to receive the new pieces tomorrow, will post pics in this thread.

Crafter out!

I'll be honest, I've never gotten this whole "my partner HATES it LOL!" attitude. I paint crazy quickly and it still amounts to approximately 1 kit per month. When I have a kid to deal with I'm betting that'll drop to a whole lot less.

What hobbies regularly pursued by married adults cost less than 50-60$ per month? I'd spend more than that if I was a big movie buff who liked to go to the theater regularly, or if I was really into gardening, or pretty much any sport that required more than "a ball".

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

AOBR is a great starter. I think it is one of the best ones they ever released, if it had come with some scenery pieces it would have been perfect!
You got so much, basically a fully starter Ork army with two troops, an elite, a HQ and a fast attack unit, and a pretty decent Space Marine force with a troops, HQ and two elites. One box of scouts or another tactical squad and you have all you needed for some fun games.

If it had come with a sheet or two of punch out cardboard ruins, it would have been perfect.

That's not particularly crazy quick. I have painted 64 necron warriors 2 days. 2k army in about 2 weeks. Your pace isn't bad but calling it crazy quick is bit off last year painted 3 armies 2k-3k in 3 months despite 1 being slowest army i have ever painted.

Congrats! AOBR is an awesome set! One of the best. The only place where the "Good" DeffKoptas can be had! Enjoy!

I've been doing this a very long time. I can do a 2000 point army in a month to better than table top standard. My wife hated it for a very long time.

But then she started talking to her friends who's husbands were "rebuilding" classic cars, or dropping thousands a year on hobbies like golf that take them out of the house and away from the family. By comparison, she is now fairly happy with my hobby. lol

Edit: I just googled ablutions and apparently it does not including dropping a duece. I should have looked it up early sorry for any confusion. - Baldsmug

Psiensis on the "good old days":
"Kids these days...
... I invented the 6th Ed meta back in 3rd ed.
Wait, what were we talking about again? Did I ever tell you about the time I gave you five bees for a quarter? That's what you'd say in those days, "give me five bees for a quarter", is what you'd say in those days. And you'd go down to the D&D shop, with an onion in your belt, 'cause that was the style of the time. So there I was in the D&D shop..."

Yes, I am pleased. Still yet to see in person but it should be coming home with my OH later today.

Expecting one or two hiccups - for one thing I can only see one flight stand amongst the pile of black unpainted minis, but I can also spot a mini or two that aren;t part of the starter set so there may be a surprise or two.

I'm still going to make Eldar my primary focus to get started but these will be nice little side projects if/when I get tired of painting the same thing over and over.

I painted some fantasy orcs back in the day so look forward to having a go at these ones.

Will be sure to share photos later on!

Yeah. This. 40k isn't that expensive compared to basically any other adult hobby.

However, it's very expensive for a kids hobby [which importantly, it needs to be accessible to in order to bring in new blood], and many people see it as undignified or something because aspiring to have a big pile of dolls is less socially acceptable than aspiring to go skiing or go to a tropical vacation or something.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

Haven't had a proper chance to go through it all yet but I'm very pleased so far.

Majority of models have been sprayed black but not even glued! The push fit minis had literally just been pushed to fit! Ha!

Few minor repairs needed (mainly the Ork Deffkoptas) but nothing major. Currently stripping the paint off a badly painted Dreadnaught and terminator but I have attached a few pics below!

Even had a bag of spares that I was able to build a little kneeling marine out of this evening!

This. I have a friend who's wife hates games. Well, anything beyond traditional card games & maybe(?) Chess. Board games, video/PC games, Magic, and especially minis games. She sees them as things for children.
She completely doesn't get RPGs. Those are in the realm of explaining quantum physics to a goldfish....

She's fine with her husband spending a fortune on Golf/golf trips though.
Paint Ball & Disc Golf are viewed with suspicion.
But she cannot wrap her head around a group of adults spending an evening playing with Hot Wheel cars (Gaslands), or pushing model tanks around (WWII games).

This.

If your partner doesn't get on board with your hobby, why'd you marry them, silly?
