I'm thinking of getting the Space Wolf Combat Patrol boxset because I like the models that it has and want to be able to get models on the cheap. However, I am not going to be playing Space Wolves. I wanted to make the Battle Leader into a Lieutenant. Now I already have a planned helmet swap that I want to do but I wanted to ask if I could play with the loadout that the miniature is given. (The ax and small bolt gun.) I'm pretty new with Space Marines and just wanted to ask if I could use the Battle Leader as a Lieutenant without doing too much conversion work.

The gun and sword the model has, are only allowed on a Space Wolves Lieutenant. If you switch the axe to a sword, and switch the bolt gun to a pistol, you'll be good to go with limited work. (just some hand swaps with spare bits).

Don't know what you'll do about the furs though, the cape isn't so bad but the belt and fur on the loin could be tricky.

The belt and fur would be part of the model. I've got a custom unit for my first company in my custom chapter that has a lot of wolf iconography so it'll still work.
