To quote a famous British TV show, "And now for something completely different". Usually the lists I post here are intended to be taken very seriously for competitive play, but today I thought I'd post something I came up with that would be intended more for casual fun games. I wanted an excuse to play with a bunch of models I bought for 7th edition's "Lion's Blade Strike Force" but never actually got around to playing. For those who don't know, a Lion's Blade (and its vanilla counterpart, the Gladius) was a "super formation" that got a whole bunch of insane bonuses in exchange for being forced to take a certain combination of units. The units in question make up a Space Marine Battle Company as seen in the fluff, and is organized as such. A Captain and Chaplain, 6 Tactical Squads, 2 Assault Squads, and 2 Devastator Squads formed the core, and there were some options for how to flesh it out.
In 9th, it is a lot harder to make a list like this, and you don't get any bonuses for doing so, of course, so this is mainly just something I'm doing for fun. I've restricted myself to a single Battalion detachment, and no Primaris units at all. Firstborn only. And no Ravenwing or Deathwing, either. I might in future try to make a Primaris version, but I don't think I even have the models for that. Anyways, without further ado, here's the list I came up with:
Battalion (Dark Angels):
Captain: Relic Blade, Combi-plasma, Warlord (Brilliant Strategist)
Chaplain: Crozius, Bolt Pistol, Litany: Recitation of Focus
Lieutenant: MC Boltgun, Chainsword, Relic: Teeth of Terra
5-man Tactical Squad: Meltagun, Combi-melta
5-man Tactical Squad: Meltagun, Combi-melta
5-man Tactical Squad: Meltagun, Combi-melta
5-man Tactical Squad: Plasmagun, Combi-plasma
5-man Tactical Squad: Grav-cannon
5-man Tactical Squad: Missile Launcher
Apothecary
Company Ancient
Company Champion
5-man Assault Squad: 2x Flamer
5-man Assault Squad: 2x Flamer
5-man Devastator Squad: 4x Lascannon, Armorium Cherub
5-man Devastator Squad: 4x Multi-melta, Armorium Cherub
Drop Pod
Drop Pod
Razorback: Twin Heavy Bolter
Razorback: Twin Lascannon
As I said, I don't think this would be competitive really, but I think it would be fun and fluffy for casual play. The only thing I am thinking of changing is switching out the Champion and Ancient for another Razorback or maybe a Dreadnought or something, but I kind of like having all of the characters like that for fluff reasons. My main worry is that it might still be a bit strong for casual play, depending on what I find myself facing.
