There has been a move away from long-range firepower and toward melee/short-range firepower it seems. There are also some really nasty characters out there like the Silent King, Mortarion, and the Keepers of Secrets. The Castellan seems well suited for dealing with these, as well as elite squads of infantry like terminators or lychguard. House Raven combined with Cold Eradication (roll an extra die and discard one for each random shots weapon) is focusing on maximizing ranged firepower over defense. I am hoping that long range and positioning will keep the big guy safe instead of taking Ion Bulwark as the warlord trait.
The Armiger spam is to take advantage of the points drops and create more board presence. Generally speaking you can get three Armigers for the price of one Questoris knight. I'm still risking giving up a lot of points to Bring it Down even with the new rules, but that's a problem any knight army is going to have. It will be easier to hold onto my backfield objectives and push into the center of the board with the more melee-focused Armigers though, which at least lets me hope to play the Primary missions and go for things like Engage on all Fronts.
There's a fair amount of damage 3 weapons here to help against light vehicles, Gravis armor, and the new Deathguard. The Warglaives can threaten both elite stuff and hordes with melta and melee, as well as their Engine War pack-attack strategim. The Moirax and their Lightning Locks are good against hordes as well as the new Deathguard as they don't lose damage to Disguistingly Resilient. I'm spending three CP for the second detachment to get the Krast re-roll hits in melee for the little guys, as I need to hit really hard to ensure I'm taking an opponent off of an objective. This also lets me spread the Armigers out into individual units instead of squadrons to help a little in deployment. The double-gun Armigers can advance and shoot without penalty, taking advantage of Raven's never-used House trait. I plan on using them mostly to screen out deep-strikers from the Castellan and to hold back-field objectives. Since they are not super-heavies, I can also use their speed to get LOS on a target while limiting the return fire if terrain permits.
I feel like this list may be weak against ultra-fast melee units like White Scars, Aeldari, and Slaneshi daemons, as well as possibly against very heavy shooting armies like the Imperial Guard. How would you approach defeating this list? Are there ways that I could improve it? What souping options do you advise?
