Vets are kind of meh. Compared to Scions you "need" to buy them a transport, whereas the Scions have their deep strike ability baked in.

Russ commanders are ok, but are *H A R D* countered by Knight Castellans. The castellans can reliably outright kill or "last bracket" 2 Russ per turn.

I would say that Guard's current strength is in Infantry Squads. It is very difficult to remove Guardsmen in a points efficient manner. First turn, send your waves of peons at the objectives... use the Move Move Move order to cover as many as you can on the first turn, and then just keep reinforcing the dead. Use Obsec as your Friend.

Ideal support seems to be Artillery, fired without LoS. If you can't see it, it can't die... that makes them more survivable than Russes.

Scions and Tank Commanders are good, but I think they need a swarm of Infantry to keep dying on the objectives for them.

No actual experience, but seems like it might be reasonably effective on paper (at the very least quite interesting to play).

A Battalion of Scions with Taurox Primes/Valkyries, plus a Vanguard with couple TCs and Veterans. You get a lot of special weapons slots that's for sure, maybe a couple command squads for some heavy weapons too might work. Might lack much long range AT, but enough meltaguns mixed in and you can solve that issue close up instead.
