Up until now I've avoided Primaris marines, instead focussing my Ultramarines army on classic units. But with the release of the Dark Angels codex supplement I find myself being tempted by a more interesting chapter from a rules and lore point of view...

The models in the new Dark Angels Combat Patrol look good too. So how competitive are the units in it? And would expanding it with some Deathwing Knights/Terminators make a good army?

Whether you think Primaris marines are going to replace first born marines or not, are Terminators here to stay now? There was talk of Gravis armour replacing those back in the early days of Primaris, but having a truly up-to-date marine army that also includes Terminators is starting to appeal.

If you want to start with Primaris, the box is absolutely fine.

Inceptors and the Redemptor Dreadnought are hot right now.

Intercessors are a good choice, too.

The only dud in the box is the Chaplain for me. And that is because you can get the same model for 10 bucks in the Conquest magazine.

The one on bike is better in many ways as well.

So far nothing is known wether Terminators will be replaced by Gravis. Even if Primaris Terminators do come out, Firstborn will most likely still be supported for some time.

Just look at Intercessors <-> Tacticals or Bikes <-> Outriders.

Designer's Note: Hardened Veterans can be represented by any Imperial Guard models, but we've really included them to allow players to practise their skills at making a really unique and individual unit. Because of this we won't be making models to represent many of the options allowed to a Veteran squad - it's up to you to convert the models. (Imperial Guard, 3rd Edition)

Foot characters outside of maybe LT is useless.

The chaplain is ok if you can get your hand on a single outrider bike to make a cheap bike chaplain which is what I did with my indomitus walking chaplain. For someone new that is what I could recommend.
