Hello

Looking to see if anyone has any experience painting with the Molotow refill bottles

Wanting to airbrush it onto some Solar Auxilia for their armor plating but I want to be able to paint their fatigues a regal blue or purple. If i base coat the mini in the molotow and then use a Alcad varnish (after the extremely long dry times I am aware of) could i paint on top of the varnish to do the fatigues and equipment? Or am i going about this the wrong way and instead do the fatigues and equipment first and then mask and do the plating?

Apart from the Alcad varnish which was recommended on an Adam Savage video for use with Molotow, does anyone have any recommendations on something to cover the Molotow and secure the Chrome finish while not dulling it down?

Any general advice for working with Molotow? I have looked into Alcad's own chrome but have seen several reviews advising it requires a bit more skill to use to its full effect and that Molotow is a easier thing to work with albeit more expensive

I haven’t used this product but I would think that anything you put on top of the chrome would diminish the chrome effect.

Have you seen the green stuff world chrome paint recently released. It might be better for what your doing than the molotow

I have not seen this stuff ill check it out for sure thanks!

I dont mind the diminished shine on the fatigues as thats what im struggling to figure out how to do, i want all their plate to be done up in nice shiny chrome and then their cloth fatigues like the inner pant leg and upper arm regions to be just a regular purple or blue but from what i have seen with chrome paints (mainly necrons) its a all in or nothing kind of paint job and people have not painted other parts of the miniature or at least the ones i have seen.

Here is where I got the inspiration for the idea

Also check the buffable metallic colours sold by military modelling shops. AK has some but I'm sure there are others as well. Might be easier to work with and they offer chrome as well.

I too was intrigued by the Molotov Chrome but have since started thinking there might exist better alternatives, which are more suitable for miniature painting. I know the AK metallics are airbrushable at least, and AK sells their own cleaner for them which helps to keep your airbrush clean after your done.

"The larger point though, is that as players, we have more control over what the game looks and feels like than most of us are willing to use in order to solve our own problems"
