Hi Guys - I'm new to 40k. My friend and I love painting the models, so I collected those that looked cool and seemed to slot into a 2000 pt army. I'd say it shoots a lot, but still wants to get into melee. Your thoughts greatly appreciated. Looking forward to my first game!

Detachment #2 | Outrider

The plan:
1x Intercessors and 1x assault intercessors & ragnar ride in impulsors.
The rest of the army moves fast (the outrider detachment), or can deploy\teleport around the map (Invictor and WGTerminators, respectively),
1x assault intercessor and the bladeguard will have to walk, but they shine in assault phase anyways

Appreciate any thoughts.

Hi there! You got some nice units there but the problem I'm seeing is you have no investment in any of them. Your units are all minimum size and lack upgrades. Yes this keeps them cheap but it also makes them very flat. You say you want to get to melee but when you get there you have no weapons that will realy deal a lot of damage with the exception of Ragnar and the bladeguard.

My advise would be to trim back on a few units and upgrades the others. I'd drop Canis for a start, he's not that great and you don't have enough wolf units to make use of his buff effectively. Use those points to put thunderhammers on your troops pack leaders, and hammers and shields on your thunderwolves. That'll give you some melee punch which you sorely lack.

Next, anti tank, you have very little and that hammerstrike is going to get fragged on the first turn thanks to how fragile it is. I'd go for eradicators or even some long fangs.

Finally, push that bladeguard unit up to 5 and put them into one of the impulsors with ragnar, footslogging them is not what you do with them and three isn't going to do much.

Hope this helps, I don't want to seem too harsh but I don't want to see you get flattened in your first game.

Thanks! Good thing the thunderwolves are the one thing I don't have yet. I really want them just b/c they look so cool, but they're sold out EVERYWHERE.
Also, having admittedly never played, I don't have a good gauge/feel concerning upgrades vs buff character vs extra unit outside of just...mathing it.
I watched a video of a guy reviewing the bladeguard just yesterday vs terminators, and it made me feel like I just had to get more of both too, haha.

Really appreciate the help! Hopefully once it's safer I can post a battle-report. Have a great weekend!

If this is for your first game and using the only models you have then yeah - it's the best list you can make as it's all you have to use

My question as around what each unit is intending to do. Who will be sitting on the backfield objectives? Who will be supporting the Invictor (assuming you forward deploy it) and so forth.

Personally I would suggest for your first game, change the points down to 1000 and play a few games in the same time as 1 big 2000 point game. You have the models to make a couple of different lists which would allow you to play around with different combinations and get a feel for different playstyles.
