I recently took a closer look at Kill Team Cassius and it struck me that there's a LOT of value in there for a starting SM player of any stripe (DW players get the most, but hear me out)

This is mostly due to the fact that there are models in there that can be used as generic DW Chaplain, Librarian, Lieutenant, Jump Captain, and a bunch of other things for a bit more than the price of a standard SM squad of dudes. The Librarian and Chaplain could even be stripped of specific iconography (or given generic shoulder pads) and used for any chapter of Space Marines! Those two guys alone basically pay for the box and if you play one of the chapters represented by one of the other models you've got either bonus HQ models or special weapons guys, moreso if you're willing to ignore some odd iconography.

And if you play Deathwatch, well, why wouldn't you buy this kit? The only reason I can think is you'd want to run an all-primaris army, but otherwise it seems pretty much golden.

I agree totally; there are things about KTC that make them awkward on the field- their load out is not at all optimized.

But the models are great, and the value in the box is hard to beat. I plan on picking up a box myself, but I just grabbed a Blood of the Phoenix Box to prep for the DE release, and the DE vs Sisters box will be my purchase for March, so it's gonna be awhile.

Too cold in Canada to spray primer right now anyway, so I can only paint stuff I had the foresight to spray before the snow came. I mean, unless I want to hand prime (ugggh).

Kill Team Cassius is a good selection of models for Firstborn marines. Whether it is a good long-time investment when GW is clearly focusing on Primaris Marines is another question.

That place is the harsh dark future far left with only war left.

You just gotta keep the spray and models inside until you go to prime. Spray a couple time and bring them inside to dry. Might have to go out a second time but it's not impossible. I do it all the time cause I generally prime right before I paint. I mean unless you're in Alberta in which case it's definitely too cold

Was in Alberta for a while- that's where my 40k was most active actually. Back in Ontario now.

Even with the quick in and out sprays, it just doesn't coat with the same smooth texture. It's okay though- I had the foresight to prime a LOT of models before the cold.

And even if I run out of primed models to paint before spring, there are many, many more for me to assemble.

It's a kit I've been looking at for a while actually, great value for any marine collector if they fancied some extra work making your dudes unique and the bits you don't want will be snapped up by others who want them.
