Calling all Tau enthusiasts. Thanks for heeding the call. I picked up this job lot of random tau stuff off eBay (if you were selling them, thanks) but I have no idea about tau at all, I just always liked the minis. So if you know what we're looking at here I'd be very interested to know what I've got my hands on. What it does and it bits are missing that I don't know about. I have no intention of playing any 40k or killteam or anything. I just though it might be nice to make them into a little force that looked like it made some sort of sense.

First up its this big fella.

He's missing a foot but I can make one for him with greenstuff I think so that'll be ok. I have no idea what this is beyond a crisis suit of some sort... I think?

Next up its a stealth suit?

Is that big blaster looking thing common to all stealth suits?

Then I have this one fire warrior, missing a right arm.

I think I can make a copy of the left arm shoulder pad and then sculpt a new arm for him. (Can you tell how many tau bits I have available in my bits box? Here's a clue, you're looking at them. All of them!

Then lastly it's all these drones and... Other things.

Any ideas? Many thanks in advance.

You might have a kill team's worth of models there, but not many options.

Anything I say, unless expressly noted, is my own opinion. Take it as you will

If you dont care about it being within confines of the rules because you have no interest in the games just go ahead and paint them up because it doesnt really matter... The stealthsuit and the mechsuit commander can have the drones around them as support(which is mostly what drones do) while the infanty man is maning the turret in the center or something. This would potentially work as a lil display setting.

I wish more people read your OP lol...

Yeah, apparently there ARE no tau enthusiasts.
My options are get rid of them, make them look dead or play a game I don't play but with no enthusiasm.

Thanks anyway Argive. My plan is more to put together a little force that looks nice just as a P&M project. I'll maybe just paint these up and then see what else is going spare to add to them.

Man, now I know how I bagged this lot for a fiver. There's just no love for the tau out there.

Fixed the missing foot issue on the "commander"

This fella has so much plastic glue on his joints there was no hope of reposing him and of course wouldn't you know the replacement greenstuff foot is the one he's standing on. So now he's got more bracing on his leg than Forest Gump.

I've always liked Tau. *shrug*

Spoiler:
Admittedly I didn't read the whole of the OP and just replied to the TT and pics. Soz.

Thanks Anf. It's just that don't know what I'm looking at. What I could be looking for to tie it all together of to replace lost items.

I suppose I should just do my research but I was hoping a fellow Dakkanaut might take an Interest.

And since I have no game plans it's an open ended project that could go anywhere. Are there any good tai stories out there? Lost patrols cut off, desperate rag tag bands of last line defence?
Maybe I should just read up on them and write some stories of my own.

Yeah I dont know why that is. I think people just hate tau on principle because "waNaBE GuNdam DoEs NOt BeloNg In GRiMDarK"

I quite like the tau. I think they have a lot of potential as a faction thats not being tapped into sadly. The kroot and other rando auxilary griblies sound awesome in concept.

The upside is you are likely to find more TAU bargains

I recon a little team of fire warriors/ infantry and maybe a couple more stealth suits to make a squad would make it look like a cohesive force. And rules wise it would be a legal detatchement under current rules (not that it matters)

All 40k armies are basically at minimum 1 Leader guy (in your case the commander with green stuff foot) and one unit of troops ( im not sure if drones on their own count as troops for tau).

To throw in my lot, I too love the Tau. I'm probably never going to collect them until they stop being trash, but I like that their lore is just the Covenant from Halo transplanted into the 40k universe (neither one ripped off the other, obviously, as IIRC the Tau and Halo CE came out in the same year). It's extremely entertaining and would make for some interesting stories if GW bothered to add more xenos species into the empire.

From what I can tell from random battle reports online, drones either come with elite units, are elite units, or fill fast attack slots. Kroot and the various flavors of Fire Warriors seem to be what they use for troops. So yeah, OP, maybe you could get some more Breachers I guess?
