Hey all,

Kinda have one question about what HQ to include in a Ravenwing only list. This list is also limited to models I own. I am torn between either two Talonmasters or a Chappy on a bike with and additional bike squad. Not supper sure a Ravenwing only list is viable on these smaller boards, though before Covid I was playing on 6x4 anyway which would make this list happier.

HQ

Captain on Bike
Teeth of Terra

Option 1: Primaris Chappy on Bike (Master of Sanctity)
-2cp for warlord trait & crosarius upgrade

Option 2: Two Talonmasters
-2cp for 1 goodie each

Fast Attack:

3 Bikes ****
Sgt w/ Combi Plasma
2 x Plasma Gun
Attack Bike w/ MM

****This unit would be removed along with the chappy to exchange for the Talonmasters.

8 Bikes
Sgt w/ Combi Melta
2 x Melta Gun
Attack Bike w/ MM
(This unit would Combat Squad into 3+1 and 5 with all melta together)

8 Bikes
Attack Bike w/ MM
(This unit would Combat Squad into 3+1 and 5, Sgt w/ 5)

3 Outriders
Sgt w/ Master Crafted Chainsword -1cp

Landspeeder Vengeance w/ HB

Landspeeder Vengeance w/ HB

Elite:

Chief Apothecary on Bike

5 Black Knights
4 Corvus Hammer, 1 PS

5 Black Knights
4 Corvus Hammer, 1 PS

1995 w/ Chappy (about the same w/ Option 2)

There is a little jiggering to be done if I switched to Talonmasters, but the main question is am I better off with the extra bike squad and the chappy for smashness with the outriders/black knights or the turn 1 & 2 fusillade from the talonmasters since this army will endeavor to stay at range until the enemy is whittled down.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I tried the Teeth of Terra in my first and only game with Ravenwing against Custodes. I found it lacking significantly. Against another army, such as IG, it may be fantastic, but I dont think it is a solid all comers option.

With so little experience with the army, it is difficult to advise what to take. However, I recommend you have a solid understanding regarding which secondary objectives you will choose. Knowing these helps fine tune your army.

As an example, if you planned to take Stubborn Defiance, I may recommend the Chaplain as he can grant a 5+ FNP (Litany of Faith) to help ensure you can hold it with the support from the Apothecary.

The other item I learned was how often I wanted to use CP. There are a lot of solid stratagems available and I would recommend starting the game with as many as possible. I don't think spending a CP to make an Outrider's chainsword master crafted is worth it.

Best of luck. Let us know how your game goes.

I’ve always ran my Sammael over a captain on a bike due to his extra re roll of all hits for one unit. That and he is a monster on the field with both firepower and melee the vengeance landspeeders are nicer in this edition but I would drop one for a dark shroud that -1 to hit can be a life saver sometimes that plus your black knights 4+ to wound is a real pain and scary when charging up the field at you.

I'm relatively new to Dark Angels. The Dark Shroud is interesting, but what are you referring to regarding Black Knights and 4+ to wound? Not sure if I am missing some rule.

Black knights have the inner circle rule which makes it so no matter they can only ever be wounded on a 4+ a 1-3 always fails.

Inner Circle states infantry only benefit from that. As far as I can tell, Black Knights do not benefit from this.

Ah haven’t gotten the new codex yet if they added that than nvm BUT still scary with -1 to hit modifier.

The Talonmaster is too good to leave at home, but when limited to 2 HQs, thats rough (aside from double dipping Lts). Personally I'd drop the chaplain but also use the points from 2nd talonmaster to have more bikes, so a compromise in your 2 choices. Id prefer Sammael over bike captain also, but feel there could be some play with generic bike captain.
