I recently returned to collecting miniatures again after around a 15 year absence, I used to collect Warhammer Fantasy Dark Elves and now I've purchased a considerable amount of WH40K Tau and I'm enjoying the hobby again. I'm looking forward to making some new hobby friends.

Since I'm here can anyone point me to a recent post that might cover the quality of resin kits from GW in 2021. I would be grateful as I've not been able to find any thread covering it in my search. I'm mostly wondering if there are still considerable quality issues. I bought a few and haven't seen anything terrible but I have no experience working with resin so I was looking for some just general opinions from recent purchasers and collectors,

GW resin is still pretty awful IMO, but it's being generally phased out...albeit very slowly. FW resin IMO opinion is much better...if that was of interest.

Well I'm collecting Tau so most of the characters are the fine resin models. I've already bought some Krootox Riders and and the Krootox hounds from a 3rd party retailer. I checked them and they seemed to be perfectly fine but I wasn't sure if that was a fluke. My reason for asking was I wasn't sure if I should just buy the resin kits directly from GW(without the very nice discount) because they will allow you to return kits that aren't up to snuff. Oh and I've seen so many really bad reviews and such of FW kits I'm kind of uncertain about buying anything from them especially at the prices they charge. But I'm certainly not able to have an opinion based on my own experience.

In my experience, this varies quite significantly from kit to kit. I've bought finecast Mandrakes from GW and found them pretty poor, wheras my Leviathan and Reaper from Forgeworld were both really good.

Best reach out to Tau players about the specific stuff your are intersted in, and they'll be able to better guide you.
