I've been wanting to try a ranged force and was wondering if there was a consensus on who has the best?
bliss barbs seem to be pretty strong with the ability to run and shoot plus their stats arent bad either.

any other thoughts?

There are a decent number of armies that can build a shooting army by specializing a certain way, limiting them to a specific build but also being more unique. I don't know that that appeals to you.

The main players as 'shooting armies' who can bring a whole swathe of options and synergy easily are Kharadron Overlords, Cities of Sigmar, and Disciples of Tzeentch. Skaven are also notable but... they are kind of their own category when it comes to that.

Road to Renown! It's like classic Path to Glory, but repaired, remastered, expanded! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/778170.page

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

Kharadron easily at this moment, with amazing mobility that no other army can match.

An archer heavy Lumineth army can dole out the damage. And looks damn nice on the table while doing it.

With Chimeras, Cockatrices, Tzangor Skyfires, & some ungor archers you can also make a surprisingly strong ranged Beasts of Chaos force.
While the Ungors ranged attack is pretty feeble you do need units to fill battleline, go claim objectives, act as screens, occasionally be placed in ambush/outflank, & (most importantly) serve as herdstone sacrifices. Might as well get a few bow shots with them in the process....

Kharadron huh... is it because of their ships?

Their entire army shoots. With all having -1 rend.

Their army does nothing but shoot and win tournaments a lot(they and seraphon are fighting for top dog title). Seeing they are pure gunline AND are doing so well in shooty meta obviously they shoot damn well

Ability to 1 drop, teleport to positions(so you make opponent go first with nothing to do but move as 40" or so to enemy), teleport, let go and if double turn bye bye.

Lumineth for example archers won't reach, then get hefty bombard and if double turned archers likely dead without shooting once.

Their ships have very good shooting, and the thunderers and endrinriggers also have solid ranged weapons. You can hide the thunderers on the ships and never touch the ground until it's objective cap time. The ships can move fast, "teleport", and act as garrison for the units inside.
The army has just two trash units, the basic arkanauts which got downgraded to complete uselessness when thunderers exist, and skywardens which were always useless.

But primarily it's the ships, the ships are amazing. The frigate less so, but gunhaulers and ironclads are just the bees knees.

I dont know if Id recommend Kharadron, even though theyre all i play.

Their style is having everything with ranged attacks, but I feel like GW dont know how to fit that in to AoS so well so they've swung all over the place from GHBs and battletomes.

The current strength of them is quite fragile as it hinges a lot on a few specific things. A skyport ability, artifact and endless spell. Spell aside the others tend to change with each battletome and any can change in an faq.

At the moment Id say most KO units are ok with the exception being the ironclad (largest ship) which is quite good. Just the zilfin khemist with spell in a bottle and warp lightning vortex is super exploitable.

Gunhaulers are alright, but mainly are taken in a battalion that supports the ironclad and thunderers well. Outside of that Ive found them kind of average, but good for getting in the way.

Arkanauts I quite like. Compared to other battlelines, as they are they're pretty good but there's not much else to synergize with them like many other armies battlelines have. They just lost their khemist skyhook spam from last book which made them a powerhouse, but that was stupid anyway.

The redeploys are powerful and can be punishing against inexperienced players.

The models are great, each to their own on that though

If your attack is going too well, you have walked into an ambush

The easy way is always mined

Lumineth can, their archers are insane. CoS can too in many ways, on horses, on foot, boats, planes, chariots, and much more. Then you have Kurnoths Bow spam.

Top for comp Seraphon, KO, Lum, DoT, CoS.

Many armies can go full shooty though
