Hi all. I'm a noob to 40k but have been pouring over rulebooks so I'm familiar with whats what. Still having a few issues with interpretations etc. I've been using Battlescribe to build my 2000 pt DA army and I wanted to have 3 hq slots. I figured I could have a vanguard detachment to get most of my Dearhwing choices in and then pay the CP for a second vanguard detachment mostly just for the extra HQ and Heavy Support slots.

I've managed to create the army list and it shows the two detachments with an overall cost of -1 CP. I figured this was the first detachment being refunded for having Azrael as my warlord and then then2 extra points he gives toward the 3CP cost of the second detachment. So far, all good. The problem is that Battlescribe is still complaining about having more than two HQs. I have a Azzy and a chaplain in the first and took Belial in the second.

Is there a rule I'm missing about how detachments work or is Battlescribe messingnsomething up? I'n reasonably sure I created the list correctly. It does show both detachments and lists the points cost separately. It just doesn't want to let me take more than 2 HQs. Note that it doesn't complain about having more than two heavy support units which is another limit for vanguard detachments.

Apologies but I just realized Battlescribe is also complaining about the number of heavy support units. I think imisunderstanding how to create a list with more than one.detachment. I may revisit a battaluon list and do what I need ny adding aux support detachments instead.

This sounds like you are having a Battlescribe issue, not a rules issue. Make sure that you selected the HQs in the correct detachments. If you can see all three HQs right after each other, you did it wrong. You should be able to minimize one detachment and only see the units in the other detachment to ensure you have things aligned correctly.

When you are done with your first detachment click on new roster, make sure new roster is highlighted in the forces box, click on add force, choose faction and detachment, click ok. You now have created a second detachment.

Thanks to all who replied. I haven't quite figured out how to fix it yet but I know its a Battlescribe or user issue pretty much. I will dig into it tonight after work.
