Hi everybody dakkanauts! Some months ago i posted a question about terminators at company level and i have another question, now about the most nastiest squads in the legiones astartes, the based destroyer squad tipe. Is for my new 30k painting project (and, latter, games). The Iron Warriors are almost finished (i post it here someday in the future) and i want to paint an army of VERY BAD people. Mainly, SoH and WB and both have interesting options to paint. So, my idea is to deploy one of them but i have some doubts. In fact, just one:

Which is the better squad to deploy, the basic Destroyers (an jp rad ml can be a serious treath for infantry), the SoH Reavers (close combat and distance build alike) or the infamous Ashen Circle? All of them would be very fun to paint but also present some modeling challenges, specially close combat Reavers and the Ashen Circle with their chain axes for the former and axe rakes for the latter.

Also, wath Mal has as the bearer of the eye, an standard or the chaotic eight pointed eye of the 40k Black Legion?

Again, thank you for your answers. See you next thread!

As jump-melee units all of these squads are effective S5 (+1S from axe-rakes on the AC, +1S from chainaxes on the Reavers, and rad grenades on the Destroyers); the Destroyers are the cheapest but have the fewest/worst options, the Reavers are a middle ground, and the Ashen Circle are the most expensive but also the killiest by a wide margin.

I'm not a big fan of the ranged options on generic Destroyers; the pistols are overcosted and if you really want rad missiles you can get them much cheaper in a Techmarine unit. The Ashen Circle can do a lot of damage through sheer volume out of the hand flamers, and the Reavers' ranged options are way too expensive to combo with melee units, they're better taken either as an assault veteran squad or as a rifle-sniper squad, not both, particularly since you can't fire a rapid-fire weapon and charge in the same turn.

Another element to consider is that Reavers can be a core unit in a way the other two can't; you can make them Troops, and 15-man squads make a more efficient place to stick Apothecaries/support characters.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

Just a note, if you take Zardu Layak then the Ashen Circle become troops and can take Dark Channeling as well for another boost.
