A friend of mine is starting up a spicy new death guard army. It's his first army, though he has played a few games with my spare models. We play pretty casually.

He is planning on buying the patrol box and mortarian. He also has the start collecting nurgle deamons and some old plague marines.

We are also planning on using the deamons as 10 more poxwalkers. Could the flies proxy in for foetid bloat drones?

How would you recommend building the marines, and also expanding from here? And is it worth fielding the deamons as a patrol detatchment, or should he focus on building up pure death guard?

So his collection will be this:
1x typhus
1x biologus putrifier
7x plague marines(various melee guys idk)
7x plague marine (on sprue)
30x pox walkers
1x mortarian

1x nurgle harbinger
10x plaguebearers
3x nugling
3x bloat flys (the deamons riding flies)

Thanks!

This would probably be better answered in the DG tactics section. Check it out - there's some very knowledgeable people there.

I would say that there's a lot of benefits to going mono DG these days. The new codex offers real incentive for going mono. That said, nurglings still have a really strong role to play and may justify breaking mono for what they bring. I think I'd say mono and soup are on par, with the route being down personal preference.

Moving forward, we're all about the termies at the minute. Your mate needs to eye up both Blightlord and Deathshroud termies. They're the bee's knees. I'd also see about picking up a Lord of Contagion. For some ungodly reason they're not available at the minute but they can still be picked up on ebay.
