If I take a chaos space marine detachment and all of the units are unaligned, do my Death Guard units will still have contagions of Nurgle?

If I have a nurgle chaos allegiance detachment do I lose contagions of Nurgle?

If I summon nurgle units do I lose contagions of Nurgle?

First of all you never lose "Contagions of Nurgle", rather your army will only gain the gain the "Nurgle's Gift" contagion under the conditions described in the Codex. I presume you're asking if you will gain that contagion, and that's how I've tried to answer the questions.

What CSM units are you thinking about? How would those units be "unaligned"? A Spindle Drone from Blackstone Fortress is an example of a unit that has the "unaligned" keyword.

You will not gain the "Contagions of Nurgle" ability.

I believe that you will stop gaining the "Contagions of Nurgle" ability when you summon the Daemons onto the table. And yes that does kind of suck :(

No, the -1 toughness thing is the "Nurgle's Gift (contagion)" ability, and you only gain that ability if every model in your army, excluding Unaligned units, has the Death Guard keyword. See the Death Guard Codex page 63.

So by default nothing has the -1 toughness ability, units then gain it as long as the conditions are met.

thanks for some reason I thought if you did not choose a mark it meant unaligned, so to get a way to cast prescience or warp time in your army you lose Nurgle's gift

I think that the Mark of Chaos keyword has got to be replaced with one of the four chaos Gods, I don't believe that there is an "unaligned" option and you must chose one.

So, yes, you're right, if you bring in a unit with Prescience or Warp Time then your army will not be able to gain the "Nurgle's Gift" ability. It's a balance, how much do you want Warp Time vs how valuable the -1 Toughness ability is. And I don't know where I stand on that one...

I am not sure what you mean. You absolutely can take chaos space marines and have them NOT take any mark of chaos. Take a look at Beseech the Chaos Gods stratagem.

Unaligned is a faction keyword (appears on Fortifications), not a reference to Marks.

If they don't take any mark doesn't the keyword just remain as "<MARK OF CHAOS>"? If you replace it aren't the only options that you can replace it with the four chaos Gods? So you can't replace it with "Unaligned"?

The stratagem suggests that it remains as "<MARK OF CHAOS>" as that is what the stratagem targets.

If you could replace "<MARK OF CHAOS>" with "Unaligned" then I think that it would be legal, both sets of keywords are functionally the same (BRB 203) and so the Death Guard restriction wouldn't care if "Unaligned" was a faction keyword or a normal keyword.

The <Mark of Chaos> has to be replaced with one of the four gods or "Undivided," not "Unaligned."

UNALIGNED is a specific keyword. You can't replace "Mark of Chaos" with it. If you have HERETIC ASTARTES, you have an alignment, you just don't necessarily have an alignment to one of the Chaos Gods.
