ATM my List looks something like this 10 Allarus w/e axes (2 groups of 5). Vexilus in Term armor with the +1 attack banner. Telemon caestus + culvern, 3 vertus preators w/ bolters, captain on dawn eagle jetbike (warlord/captain commander), Trajann , 1 guard squad x4 2 sword and board 2 spears. This is very much a turn 2/3 storm the board from reserves/golden light/termi armor while Telemon/Trajann/guard squad/bikes hide/push. Very aggressive list. The main plan is to have the Vexilus (with dread host warlord trait) and just have that dude drop in with the allarrus and watch stuff die while praying that the invuln saves + ignor wounds holds out. (usually does).
So heres my questions:
1. Why do current 9th ed custard men lists look like? I've yet to really find any (thanks covid) and im the only person in my local area that plays them so i've got no help.?
2. I'm building a second list that has more guard for objective holding and then a side board of the Forgeworld Saggitarum + jumpy/flying dudes. But in all honesty are they worth it? Stat wise they just seem kinda meh? I'll still get them for rule of cool, but....they kinda feel lackluster??
3.Galatus or spear nought ? I like the 4+ invuln + 5++ feel no pain as theres so many MARINEZ that survivng that shooting phase almost feels required to build around, but the spears damage is just sooo gooooood??
4. Culvern or Arachnus array on Telemon? Personally i think the culvern is just more well rounded, but the array has that extra oomph to it that might be devestating, but anyone i ask has no clue what either of these weapons are so im at a loss really...I even thought about just running double fist for gaks n gigs...magentized of course.
5. I like Dread Host, but i never see any lists run it, is it just because its outclassed or is melee just ...gak in 9th?

Looking at competitive custode lists, they seem pretty simple. Guard with spears seem good, Allarus seem good, telemon dreadnoughts seem good, vertus praetors seem good but it does seem like salvos are the preferred armament atm.
I'm seeing competitive lists with both weapons for the telemon. Seems like just whatever your list needs.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

They are the arch-nemesis of the muffin men. They battle over Drury Lane for dessert supremacy.

I've yet to really find any (thanks covid) and im the only person in my local area that plays them so i've got no help.? Standard troops are often taken in squads of 3-4 with at least one Storm Shield. Those who don't have FW usually go for Vertus bikes or Allarus Terminators. Those who do have FW include Sagittarum, Venatari and the Grav-Tanks. Yes, very much so. I have 10 Sag in my force and they don't look like much but they can put out a reliable amount of firepower, as well as a 3 damage beam attack against tougher things. Venatari are excellent even before their recent buff, and I've had mine do some pretty epic things against Death Guard. 3.Galatus or spear nought ? I like the 4+ invuln + 5++ feel no pain as theres so many MARINEZ that survivng that shooting phase almost feels required to build around, but the spears damage is just sooo gooooood?? Achillus Dread took a bit of a nerf in the update but both are still decent, particularly if using Light of the Moriades. Whichever one is the 2-shot D3+3 damage one. You have the Spiculus if you need the anti-infantry shots. Double-fist can be also be good if using Light of the Moriades. I'd also advise against trying to avoid the swear-filter on here. 5. I like Dread Host, but i never see any lists run it, is it just because its outclassed or is melee just ...gak in 9th? Dread Host is my go-to one, for LotM as mentioned previously, but All-Seeing Annihilator can be very effective.
