Hello Dakka Friends,

I wanted to add the Lord Inquisitor Hector Rex to my Custode Army as my HQ (Vanguard Detachment). My friend says Hector Rex can only freely join a patrol, battalion or brigade detachment. My reading of his ‘Agent of the Imperium’ rule didn’t seem to prohibit me from taking him as an HQ for my Custodes. It did seem to mention that if I had one of the patrol, battalion or brigade detachments, he wouldn’t occupy a slot in those detachments. Perhaps am I missing something here, can someone clarify? Can I take Hector Rex as my only HQ for my Custodes?

Thanks Friends!

The Agent of the imperium rule says that you can include 1 Agent in a Patrol, Battalion or Brigade Detachment without those units taking up slots in those Detachments. (and still keep all of your army specific rules like Combat Doctrines, and rules that state all units from that Detachment must have at least one Faction keyword in common like matched play games).

So they don't take up any slots and you would need another HQ to fill the mandatory slot requirement.

An Inquistor added to a Vanguard detachment could not have his faction keywords ignored. This means you would have Custodes and Hector Rex in the same detachment with IMPERIUM being the only shared keyword. This is not allowed. That is the reason he needs to be in a patrol, battalion or brigade.

Yeah, this is right. You can take him as an HQ in a Vanguard, and he does take up a HQ slot in that case, but it also means that the detachment loses battle-forged status, and is therefore illegal in matched play.

If you take him in a pat/bat/brigade, he doesn't take up a slot, even if you would like him to.
