Yup, another Necron WIP, I started this build a long time ago in Miniwargaming, but since then I have well...lost my army due to moving for work. Well anyway, it's a good time to restart fresh, this Necron army is a massive undertaking because I want to expand the Necron lore by building an Asian theme Necron army, not just a simple paint scheme, but a near-full overhaul of varying degrees to show off what an awakened army can be, not just Another Egyptian mummies in space with a different paint scheme. The idea is a mix of different Asian culture and historical time periods including the current over-romanticized Sengoku period, and the romance of the three kingdoms, with the polished chrome, chrome, chorme of the 80's Sci-fi robots.

Here is the start of the Necron warriors in various poses, I plan to add to them some hip armour, and a faux hair bun, I am still deciding if I should add a Samurai back flag to these guys.

Here is a close up of a wall-jumping Necron...
The idea here is what if the Necrons were to move at full speed, and thus this Necron came to mind.

Feel free to add your 2 cents, would like to hear what you guys think, and creative suggestions.

Really intriguing! I can't wait to see what you're gonna do with these guys! The wall-jumper might make sense to turn into a Flayed One?

The thigh plates that Immortals and Lychguard and other more "advanced" Necrons look alot like the Haidate of traditional Samurai armour. If you want the Warriors to be ashigaru and the others to be samurai, it might be clearest to not add the thigh plates to the Warriors.

I wonder if it's possible to get a "kneeling" rank of Warriors? Food for thought...

As for heads, have you considered a headswap with the Puppetswar Samurai Reaper Helmets for the larger minis? They also have the Ashigaru Reaper Helmets that could be effective.

Actually, I have plans for the next batch Necron Warriors to be in a rifleman like pose, not sure if I want to use the standing pose or a mix of both kneeling, and standing to replicate continuous firing....(omg Necron Warriors firing continuously?!)

The thigh plates on the higher rank Necrons will be reworked. Something seems off about them, but once I get the new thigh skirt plate.

Puppetswar I like their work, and need to get my hands on some of their heads conversion bits

I should have some updated photos soon. I am currently testing out how to attach these hip thigh plates. The next item I am needing to figure out is a new gauss weapon design that sceams old advance tech, maybe something like the OG battestar galactica, or buck rogers weapons.

We shall see soon

Great start to the project. Sorry to hear about losing the old dudes, but excited to see where this goes! A neat aesthetic that tickles my Animatrix bone in all the right places. Lovely work with the parkourbot, off to a great start.

I think flags would be a nice touch, and if doing each individual one seems daunting, maybe one per 10 or so to denote seniority?

Looking forward to more!

Finally found a design that I like, and simple enough to repeat. Here is a close-up shot of a Necron with attached thigh plates. The intermediate piece is a black bead, which I got the inspiration from how some Gundam Kits have ball joints for the hip skirt armor. Also, beads at this size are better at uniform size than manually cutting styrene rods and seeing too much variation in sizes, and cut angles. The plates are made from index cards with a light coating of superglue, I did not want the plates to be cheaply layered (aka glued together as a single unit like some other 28mm, no disrespect), I wanted to give each segment depth and the feeling of an exotic floating armor.

Ooooh, that floatedness is very cool! For models with existing thigh armour, will that be layered on top of their existing thigh armour to be a 2-layer ablative armour?

Oh that's coming out very cool!

My two cents: make plates on the shoulders like domaru sode. I don't know if Necrons have sergeat equivalenrs, but those would be the ones I'd give sashimono/back banners to.

Or maybe just Lychguard. You could also give them neck plates like a kabuto

Here is a quick group photo update with a few more Necron with thigh plates attached. It's turning out better than expected, the thigh plates are giving an interesting vibe while I have them grouped. While thinking about the painting I noticed a slight issue which I will have to remove these plates for separate painting purposes. The upper arm plates are in the works, the Domaru Sode is a rough draft idea atm.

When It comes to army formations I want to say that when the Necrons were alive, I would assume that their army would be laid out very similar to the modern-day military rank, and file, so I am bouncing on a few ideas to show rank within the warrior's caste. Oh the Lychguard, and any other Necron with pre-existing thigh plates, I am removing them, and replacing them with rank-appropriate thigh plates to keep that Asian-ish feels. I am not sure if I want to use green stuff, or sandpaper to remove those plates atm, more testing. Once I get the rest of the warrior's thigh plates made, I think I will have made a choice on head decoration for these foot soldiers with or without basic feudal Chinese Topknots, like the foot soldiers in Dynasty warriors video game.

Hello all, here a quick update, I got all the back flag frame built, now comes the interesting part. The placement of the flag to flow with movement. I did a dry fit on the leaping Necron and made a few adjustments, and finally modified its other arm. The Rifle barrel is currently in the middle of a WIP remodel atm, thinking of going with a more anime-themed rail gun open frame, or a cyberpunk matchlock barrel.

The white flag banner is just a placeholder until I can build some green clear cellophane banners with logos to simulate an energy banner flag. But other than that the back flag frame is doing its job. Now it feels more dynamic and it feels more like it's chasing you. (AKA, Food for thought, Why were the Eldar designed to be fast? here's a hint...Necrons don't move slowly.)

Still figuring out how many of this first batch should have foot trooper cyberpunk theme straw hats. I am toying around with some Necron lore, and thinking about adding a mini shoulder cannon, like predator but a bit smaller, and shiner, a lot shinier!

Here's another update on the rifle. I am going with a rail gun-ish design from Halo, and Armored Core. currently I have a length, and the basic design. I know it looks plain, but I have some things planed out to bulk up, and detail up the barrel. Here is a quick photo of one my necrons with the basic rail gun. Hopefully on my next days off work I can get more work done.

More to come. maybe hats/helmets

Hello yall, it's been a while, life, and work, etc. But here I am back on another late-night brainstorming away. Here is another Necron captured in motion sliding down...a crystal, metal plate, something flat?

This army build is going slowly, but meshing a lot of different Asian cultures, and otaku is a daunting task.

I think I finally found a pose with this Necron arms that work. I am needing to make a custom hand, but other than that I think this anime-style pose works. Basically, this Necron has chased you down and is sliding down debris, and shoots something that is creeping up on its blind side, your friend? your battalion buddy? some random space marine that thinks they got the upper hand rushing? a Tau that is talking too much?. I think I might have to scribe a semi-subtle smile. What are your thoughts?
